get a physical, and while you're there talk to your doctor about your diet. find out about getting your body fat tested using a reliable method. right off the top: whole breads at subway? doubtful. skip the 5-alive (8oz=456calories, mostly from corn syrup). not many veggies in your routine unless yo...

JVC Lament Oh, Canada. Damn. Bumped out of top 150 by two-team ergers. looks like a there's a glitch that allows for more than one team affiliation, eh? take out the 10 or so doubles and you're well within the top 150. i'm just glad it's over! (i don't even have enough energy left for a haiku...)

ahh, the Church of the Sub-Maximal! obligatory crappy haiku: aching shins and calves. subvert challenge with beach fun. sub-max to re-coup. spent a long weekend at the beach, and returned with *very* cranky lower legs. i really wanted to catch up with my challenge meters, and a nice easy (aka 'slack...

The question of heart rate and source of energy is a perplexing one for me. I have asked a number of people if you exercise in a carbo burning zone and deplete your glycogen stores without taking in any carbos where is glycogen restored from: fat or protein. If it from fat then wouldn't exercising ...

"The scientists found their method could "spot reduce" troublesome areas such as legs and buttocks." this seems a tad suspect. those same areas just *happen* to be the areas most likely to firm up through cycling of any duration/intensity. i.e. focused muscle toning vs. pinpointing fat reduction ;) ...

But Ann, the 'bare HC minimum' was 100,000!
congrats on the 3M!

hey jamier, sounds like you're doing all the right stuff. couple things i'd recommend: first, get a physical if you haven't had one recently. second, a heart rate monitor. i've used a heart rate monitor for the last couple years and i've found it very helpful in keeping me focused on doing quality w...

"Sub-Maximal" would make a great band name! i find if i try to go 7 days a week on the rower i burn out and start to make excuses not to row. i'm now a pretty steady m-f 5 days a week rower. the weekend will include hiking, bike rides, tennis, etc., but i usually stay off the rower. oh, that 'm-f' s...

is dropping that much weight while you're still growing/developing worth the possible long-term effects? i would recommend you consult your physician. any idea what your current body fat percentage is? 'sucking weight' is all well and good, unless you're hoping to get the most out of your brain at t...

Re: Why can't I GAIN weight?

Since I am an ectomorph (pretty lanky, small shoulders, long arms, light build), I've been hoping to gain muscle mass. However, I'm curious to know how much rowing can affect training for those who are trying to bulk up. I have gained SOME weight ever since I started rowing 2 years ago (I think I w...

i do 40-60 minutes each morning, and tend to watch either the news or a portion of an action/drama style movie. the tv sits just past and above the monitor, so it's right in my sightline. audio is piped through my stereo and i have a pair of wired earbud-style headphones which eliminate most of the ...
