Re: Building the Basics
Jackrabbit, I'm a little confused by some of the details in your previous post...'re-constructed knee'... 'without re-injury'... My body parts are still original and I am happily injury free. Were you confusing me with someone else on the forum, perhaps? The idea of posting a video for analysis is a...

Re: Building the Basics
James and hjs, I hear yah! Get in there and train for longer time and distance! I will start the Pete Plan this week because I need some basic structure to follow and it looks like it has built in longer workouts than I have been doing. Originally the rower was just my fill in workout between runnin...

Re: Building the Basics
Cyclingman, somehow your post popped up after I replied to Greg's. Thanks for your ideas. And Bob, I appreciate the link you posted. That looks like an interesting training program too however, if I understood it correctly, it requires a minimum of 4 workouts per week. I would like a training plan t...

Re: Building the Basics
OK, back at the gym today I did four intervals of 500 metres each with a 1 minute rest between pieces. Beforehand I did some stretching and a 5 minute warmup on the rower. So my average for this workout was 28 spm and 2:30/500 metres. Of course I didn't do the whole 2000 metres at one go because I w...

Re: Building the Basics
Good advice here: experimenting to find a good balance between spm and power makes sense. Will be doing that and I plan to report back for further guidance!

Re: Building the Basics
Cyclingman thank you for your reply and suggestions. When I started on the indoor rower a few months ago I was going at a higher spm but then I read that that is a common mistake that beginners made and, to be fair, I'm sure my technique was not at all good at that rate for sure. So I went to a slow...

Re: Building the Basics
Thank you guys, that gives me some perspective and, a possible goal!
Bob, that is very helpful info - appreciate those links too!
Lots for me to tweak... it will be interesting to see how things unfold. I'm hoping that this sport will have a place in my future.

Re: Building the Basics
Thanks for your replies, guys! Tortoise, in terms of weight, at 130 lbs it looks like I would fall into the 'lightweight' category. Bob, thanks for all the info. Gads, I had a look at that ranking list....geez, I would barely make the bottom of the list if I used today's workout! I have a long ways ...

Building the Basics
Hello all indoor rowers! I am a 59 year old woman, 5"4" average weight, from Vancouver, BC. I had been participating in competitive outrigger paddling for the past five years and about three months ago left the sport. I am now running 5-7 km three times a week and, on the days I am not running, rowi...
