Thanks for the fresh perspective. If you (or anyone else) know where to find splits for horse races, please let me know. I’d love to do some analyses. For that matter, if anyone knows where to find splits for any events besides what I’ve presented in this thread, please let me know. FISA and FINA s...

I retrofitted my Model C with the chain axle sprocket replacement kit (part #1915) . It lowered the noise level a good bit (I believe someone on this forum actually measured the difference in noise level at a couple of drag factors and a couple of power levels; I want to say it was a 6 dB reduction)...

Assuming i did a 2k sometime this week, what do you think my split would be? My best 5x1500 (with 1125 m active recovery at 2:32 / 500 m in between) is...

Re: another WP question - level 2 - 3K/2.5K/2K rests
But how much rest would a body allocate after 3K and 2.5K? Practice the same proportionality? Eleven minutes seems a long time to rest between 3K and 2.5 K. Or am I wrong? While I can't find the reference right now in the source material, I believe the recovery piece is 75% of the work piece you ju...

Re: "Carrier" rowing
Watching the 4th hour of Carrier on PBS last night and toward the end there was a brief scene of one of the sailors/pilots erging on a C2! Awesome! Not sure how many ergs the ship has, but there are a ton of treadmills. Having erged on a carrier, I can say that the pitching and rolling of the ship ...

Re: 2000 meters secrets...
Looking to try 2000 meters under 7 minutes. Can anybody help with pace, settings and other trade secrets? Seems to me that a steady pace of 1.45/500m is not the way to go.. This topic was discussed at length here: Specific 2k Pacing (Per 500m) If you can do it try this: 800m @ 1:46.0, 600m @ 1:45.0...

Re: Model C "Silencing" kit
Just wanted to report that I called C2 and ordered a "silencing" kit for my model C. It replaces the sprocket, chain, etc. and runs about $55. It made a HUGE difference in the noise from the erg. Fan noise is obviously still the same, but chain noise is way down. Before, with every drive, I got a l...

Re: Crash-B weigh-in
What's the protocol for weigh-in at the Crash-B's? I know about the time frame, but I don't know: Dressed in rowing gear? shoes on or off? No clothes? In 2005 and 2006, men could weigh in at the CRASH-B wearing as much or as little as desired. As was previously stated, some men very close to the we...

Re: My first row.......
My observation are that I am not very fit. I have a lot of work in front of me. I guess I will start a log. I wouldn't not necessarily draw the conclusion that you are not fit - you're still figuring out what you can do, and you probably had lots of gas left in the tank. Logging your meters is a go...

Those aren’t target paces, and I didn’t arrive at them. I simply calculated the per-500m paces and Watts for the times Joe listed for each distance, and plotted Watts against distance for a quick visual approximation of how power output decreases as distance increases. Thanks for suffering this foo...

Where do you get or how do you generate such a profile? What I meant to ask was, how did you arrive at those paces? Going from 2K to 5K added 5 seconds to the pace. Doubling the distance from 5K to 10K added 4.8 seconds. Doubling (roughly) the distance from 10K to HM added 6.7 seconds. My conclusio...

Re: pounds of thrust & drag factor question
I was kind of hoping someone had already looked at this, but if not I'll give it the 'primitive physics' test. I haven't looked to see if anyone else has looked at this, but here's my primitive physics test. energy = force x distance power = energy / time power = (force x distance) / time power = f...
