Re: Focus vs. Distraction

My rower is outside so a) is out of the question - for me it is a mix of b), d) and e). Most of my sessions are on ReRow so racing against my previous self keeps me quite motivated :) Paul G But now I have to know, when you did your epic 24 hour row, what was your plan? No movies? Nothing but music...

Re: Focus vs. Distraction

As a former runner who did most of my training with teammates, I always thought it was crazy when I saw people running with headphones on, listening to their music, and not really focused on their workout. But as I aged (and mellowed out), I found the transition to music (and then audiobooks and no...

Re: Damper setting and drag rate confusion.

Lowering the drag moves the focus from muscular endurance to cardiovascular work. It also increases the proportion of the work done by the legs rather than back and arms. I think many people initially use too high a drag as it is fine for a short distance (muscles take some time to fatigue) and it ...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

I played around with the damper settings lately, before I just put it up to 10, but reading more about it realized that a bigger number isn't always better. At any rate I was able to beat my previous 2000m time by 15 seconds today, and got a 6:59. Obviously extremely happy about beating the 7 minut...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

As always, some excellent training pieces posted. I am almost embarrassed to be posting in such exalted company, but here goes anyway. :) Yesterday I managed my first sub-90 HM since my CA. I had decided to gradually start increasing my spm to work on my CV fitness but managed to keep below 21spm fo...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

100m PB - 13.8 (-0.2'') :D Big PB for me today, managed to go sub 14! It was also a LP PB at 1:05 :) After yesterday's sprint prep I've planned something easier today, but legs felt surprisingly good. Wasn't 100% sure if legs are fit enough for the 1', so I tried a fastish 100 and decided to go for...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

60' TT next .....hoping to get a bit closer to 16k but I doubt I can get that milestone yet. When is your 60? It will be one of your best results if you do manage 16k, but it's not out of the question. If you get to circa 15800m that will be impressive, given that you don't have much recent longer ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Very nice again,Alex - you are in a really rich vein of form at the moment!! For me, I did a bog-standard, Stu-like training session(only 10 minutes slower   ). Quite a low RPE and found it very comfortable, so pleased that I am gradually getting stronger. Tale of the tape: Distance : 2109...

Re: The three areas I see ripe for improving rowing power over current technique

Give me β€œpure” as in run, swim, a distance, with zero help. Throw a shotput, jump heigh etc. The only variable is the body. Thats also why those sports stagnate, we are close to what a current human can do. Swimming a bit excluded, which shows that humans are no real natural swimmers. Technique nee...

https://i.postimg.cc/TpNLhvzv/IMG-20210325-081228-470.jpg My reaction to the HD on Tuesday. The fourth 2k was fuelled by frustration and it all felt easier than I expected. Now I'm not sure if I just choked, it was a bad day, or both. HR seemed more normal, and effort felt about right too. I did wa...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

12,017m @ 2:02.3 r20. Planned on doing 15k, but I knew there was no benefit in doing more when I got to 12k, so I called it a day at that point. No back spasms, which have been fairly common recently (albeit only slight, and only one or two) which was encouraging. I'm having my usual fears and doub...

Solid half :)
I just need another three and a half (and a little bit more) of them next week 😬
Stu,
what day next week are you doing your 100k?
