Re: What's the best alternativ when you can't row
If you have supraspinatus tendinitis be a little careful about biking if that puts you into a forward flexed position with lots of weight on your arms!

Re: Upper Trapezius pain
Have you ever ha any neck injuries? Sometimes the chronic head/neck position used while rowing (or any other activity for that matter) can exacerbate an underlying degenerative change in the cervical spine. Try adding some shoulder shrugs and periodically roll your neck around (touch your chin rot y...

Re: Do You Train In Front Of A Mirror??
Yes...mirror front/side/back. But having gone to the trouble to set up the room like that, I tend to stare at the PM rather than at anything being reflected. Useful for the occasional check on form though - nice to be able to verify that I still do it all wrong. Now that is funny - I u...

Re: Other's experiences with Alpha Blockers
Oldcolonial - I agree about the efficacy of flomax and cialis for that matter. I think, in my case, it's only slightly helping the symptoms and I plan to go to Mayos in a year and have the green light laser surgery. After considering a TURP and other options, I really like the studies and results of...

Re: Other's experiences with Alpha Blockers
Of all the antihypertensives, in this case flomax (terazosin), which have dual uses with BPH, the incidence of adverse side effects with exercise are minimal. "Vasodilators. Alpha-adrenergic blocking drugs. Prazosin, terazosin, and doxazosin do not suppress cardiac output or exercise capacity and ar...

Re: Is it normal...
Funny you should raise this question. After bumping up my distance and time on the erg, I don't seem to be bothered by the seat. Never wore gloves. Originally, I had calluses on my hands - now just a few areas of thickening of skin, but nothing that is unsightly or in need of trimming. I wonder if i...

2017 plans
What aspect of your erging do you plan to focus on this coming year? I will reach my one year anniversary on the erg in March - my main point of emphasis will be on better rowing technique - then upping my distance!

Between 7:30 and 9 pm. Energy levels are pretty good and this is the only time I have to erg!

Re: When do you erg your best...and why?
The only time I have to erg is in the evening around 7pm - works well for me, but if I read the medical literature correctly, one's peak performance should, on average, be around 3-4 in the afternoon - may have to try that sometime. I row alone at home - thinking about Rowpro or the winter.

Re: New Ganglion Cyst ???....
No reason to remove a ganglion unless it is painful. Most of these can be aspirated in a clinic - but there is up to a 50% recurrence rate. Just a thought!

Dark Horse Rowing
Is this guy a useful source of info? I've watched several of his videos - he seems knowledgeable, but I don't want to buy into a "self proclaimed experts" point of view if it isn't accurate

Re: Is ankle/foot pain a common thing when erging?
It could be several things - there are extensor tendons that course over that area. Sometimes, a small spur at the anterior portion of the tibia can make contact (impinge) by bumping onto the talus (the bone just beneath the tibia. Lots of less common things occur there as well. I would have my pati...
