I ran my first marathon 2 weeks after the official end of my freshman crew season. The key to training for a marathon(I've done a few and am a Beantown Qualifier) is the long run- there is just nothing else that can build up your leg strength like the long run. And I'm not talking about muscle stren...

Cool topic- I've done 3 marathons myself and found cross training to be a good way to get in a lot of workouts without risking knee pain. I generally used erging for either a tempo type workout or a just some extra volume. I would run 10 miles in the morning at an easy pace, and then a 30 minutes or...

I've found a difference of about 7 between my 2k and 6k. I've also found a difference of 7 between my 6k and power hour split. You can check the National Team testing results to see how the national team 2k and 6k splits compare. I think you'll find it will be about 7 there too. However- take it wit...

two 2k's in 9 days?
I'm thinking about doing Crash B-s on Feb. 22nd and then another race at the beginning of march. Do you think I have enough time to recover for my second race on march 2nd? I would think even 7 days in between tests would be enough time, so this should be plenty of time right?

Please help predict my progress by predicting my 2k or 6k time (not sure what this workout correlates to): 8x1000m with 4 minutes rest at an average of 1:42.9 at rate capped 22 SPM I'm doing a 6k test 2 weeks from now, anyone know what range I might be in? (I'm still in a base building phase of my t...

Iain- I've also noticed on all of my steady state rows that it takes a while for me to start feeling good. Usually for me though it takes about 25-30 minutes to feel good. Those first 25 minutes usually end up being the hardest of the piece. It could be that it takes some time to build up the endorp...

I've used my heart rate band for a couple of years and found 205 to be my max as of a couple of months ago. The heart rate recommendations were from my records I kept from training I did in college, and I am now repeating the program as it worked well for me. I'm not a fan of decreasing pace, I don'...

Split Question
Part of my winter training plan has some intervals in it, but they were prescribed to me with an associated HR. I'm not a big fan of HR training for intervals. Here's an example of why I don't like HR interval training: if I'm trying to average a 180 HR, then I start out at a 175, and as the piece g...
