Wild pace # fluctuation cause?

After 5 years off the erg I've been using the C2 erg for the Holiday Challenge at my local fitness center this month (180K so far and going very well thank you!). It has a PM3 and I have noticed that about every 30 to 50 strokes to throws a wild pace number at me. For example - will doing a steady s...

Been there. Done that. Sure hope to do it again!

Had a great time. Met a lot of nice people. Ate a lot of good food. Learned how to go faster. Slept real well at night!

Book a session. You will be glad you did.

I'm not experiencing noticable pain / weakness that would otherwise be cause for alarm. I'm just slower than I would have expected. I tend to erg in cycles. There have been a number of periods where I've been off the rail for a few months. Each time I've picked up erging again I show some pretty dec...

cholesterol meds

I started taking Zocor to lower my LDL cholesterol level this spring. It worked wonders (165 down to 90). Good news is I reduced my chances of a heart attack significantly. Bad news is my erg efforts are now pretty dismal. The splits on most of my sessions are a good 6 seconds over what I would expe...

Started well and hit 100K well before the middle of the Challenge - but then lost power in the ice storm for 9 days. Got a generator on day four but it was not powerful enough to run the well pump and the furnace so with no hot shower available I put erging on hold or risked being driven from the ho...

All the dedicated rowing shell car racks I've seen have a central connecting bar that attaches to an installed set of roof cross bars (ie Yakima or Thule). It's the connecting bar (with a padded strap on each end) that helps support the ends of the boat. The car length really shouldn't matter. That ...

I use both. I usually use the Speed Coach for 500/split times and a Garmin Edge 305 to display distance and heart rate. The nice thing about the Garmin is you can download your workout to view / graph later. It's really a bike computer but I have adapted the pedal cadence sensor to log my stroke rat...

I used to post here quite regularly. Just an update that I have not died and continue to erg, although I'll admit a bit of a drop off. Have made up for it with a lot more OTW rowing and cycling. Spent 5 days at the Craftbury Sculling Center in Vermont a few weeks ago. Highly recommend it even if you...

??? Trying to figure out how one would get more vibration riding an indoor bike than on the raod. If it really is a road bike on a mag/fluid/wind trainer (as opposed to a spin bike or "exerciser" bike as the poster stated) the front wheel is just sitting on the ground and not even rotating. Where is...

An indoor "exercycle" shouldn't have significant vibration. My suggestion is to move your hands around periodically on the bars. The different positions should put less pressure on any specifiy nerve endings/meridians. No real benefit to riding on the drops indoors anyway as there is no wind resista...

Wrist bands don't me much good for keeping my hands dry. Guess I just have sweaty palm syndrome and I've learned to live with it. I find to keep the sweat out of my eyes a good tight fitting (lycra) "do-wrap" like those from Sweat-Vac works wonders. Much better than a band, standard cap or visor- ev...

Gripping for dear life could be part of the problem and should be corrected even if it's not what's causing the issue. You should be hanging on the handles, not gripping them. Row relaxed and use the legs/back to pull hooked (not gripped) handles into the body. Hands only come into play the last 1/3...

I'm just back from a 5 day session at Craftsbury Sculling Center and highly recommend it. There are also shorter weekend sessions but go for the 5 days if you can. You will regret anything shorter. Our session had a mix of abilities (around 35 working with 6 or 7 coaches) from those who had never ro...

Sadly I think in many cases it's there to hide small stress cracks that develop between the hull and deck joint overtime. I make minor repairs on lots of our club boats and it's not uncommon to see small cracks develop at the seam.
