Herniated discs

Hello all, It has been years since I've posted on this forum, and now that I need injury advice, I return... I hope you will be gracious with advice! I've always had some back problems, but this year, I started having pain in my "hamstrings." The spring season I was unable to even squat the bar, my ...

You can reduce the motion of the seat by using bungee cords infront of the seat (maybe even behind too,) just wrap it tightly around the slide, it may not completly stop the motion but it will help. I've seen this technique used by people who slide up too far.
Good Luck!

I'll take some pictures next week. No, there is no chin-up bar any more. I asked about it and they took it down to hang the quad. It's stashed in a corner now.

Pause drills work wonders on the water, I agree. I also discovered 3/4 slide yesterday to help with backsplash at the catch. It is easier to back the oars in earlier and get a good splash and smoother catch at 3/4 slide. By leghtening it over 10 strokes it helped me a lot. My coach has been working ...

I've never seen a chin-up bar. Too bad I hate trying to do chin-ups with a door frame, it just doesn't work. I don't know if Peter Gross is still rowing, however I row with his daughter and his wife coaches so I'll tell them you said hi. As for the training camp... with plane fare and lodging, well....

I should have been more specific, I mean Monday thorugh Friday. I take weekends easy and don't do any intense work. I have had a back problem and am taking this week easy, so far it hasn't made a difference. I have to go to the Dr. next week anyways to get typhoid pills so I'll ask about it then. Th...

Xeno, the training camps seem like they'd be great although I'm hoping to be in Ameterdam that week in August. July is the week after Mercer lake trials meaning I'd probably be exausted. Anyways that's not what I'm posting about. I'm just wondering if the phrase, "the way you row on the paddle is th...

I tried slides last week at teh boat club, I only rowed about 500 meters before going on the water but I loved the slides. It does feel a lot better, I think the erg feels like you are in a heavy weight quad and the only one rowing (even on a low damper setting) The slides did feel better, more ligh...

resting heart rate

It seems lately that my resting heart rate is around 80-90 bpm. I'm 16 years old, 150 pounds and I row at least 8mi daily plus cross training and weight training. This doesn't seem normal to me, I've never noticed before that my heart rate is so high and I haven't changed my training plan at all eit...

Poggies are GREAT, I couldn't row without them but you don't have to order them special, cut the toe of a pair of socks and you have poggies. If you have fleece socks or hiking socks that is better, if not two pairs of cotton socks will definatly help. They should be a wider pair of socks as well. H...

Yes, 2k is a long way... and yet they call it a sprint.

Does your time on the water translate to the time it would take on a c2?

For example if it takes me 7min to do a 2k in a single scull on the water would it also take around 7min on the c2 or what? (in ideal conditions)

Thanks

try readjusting your grip some, experriment a little bit and see if you can come up with something that works. By the place on your hands that you have blisters and that you said you try to hook the handle it sounds like you might be allowing the handle to pull on your skin more than you should. Try...

I'll do a lot of interval work, thanks I do need it down as soon as I can... and seeing I haven't done an all out 2k test since July (I tried at CRASH-B's but I was sick) maybe it will be a little faster already. I'm in better shape now than July anyways. I have to do a 2k on the 26th and I need bel...

ask the doc or physical therapist. when you're back STRETCH and STREGHTEN. Take a volleyball sized ball and place it between your knees and lay on your back with your knees bent, bridge your back off the floor and hold it for five seconds or so. Do a few sets of ten reps with that. If that is too ea...
