Re: Help With Technique
..., I still don't have the cardio/lung capacity to maintain the stroke rate/strength that I was using in that video for any more than maybe ten minutes or so. When that starts catching up I'll probably need to focus more on getting more power into the stroke initially. I know that only too well! I...

Re: Help With Technique
Twitch, you look OK for so little experience. Your degree of leanback is acceptable, but you could benefit from rocking further forward on the recovery. You need to do this earlier in the recovery. At the moment your knees are rising too soon - infact they start to come up at the same time as your h...

Re: What OTW Training have you done today
... the end of the season, but on Halloween, with an air temp of 0C, I managed to flip the damn thing. I flipped a wide training boat when I was doing the learn-to-row course. How embarrassing! I had been dreading a dunking, and so I had studied several youtube videos about how to re-enter the boat...

Byron, it is you that is giving me the motivation to try out the single. I know that you started at a mature age, so it encourages me that I might be able to do the same.Byron Drachman wrote:I know the feeling.

Re: What OTW Training have you done today
Thanks, Bob. I can certainly empathise with your desire to stay out of that mountain lake water. Brrrr! It makes me shiver just to thhink about it. I was interested by your comments on age and balance. I suggested to our senior coach at the school boat club that he might want to join a coaches' padd...

Re: What OTW Training have you done today
I wouldn't call it training, but I was OTW. Importantly, I wasn't ITW! I have coached junior rowers for 7 years, but it was only 2 years ago that I took a learn-to-row course at my local club. Unfortunately, two surgical operations and convalescence have conspired to keep me away from boats until re...

Re: What OTW Training have you done today
Byron, you are single-handedly wearing down my resistance to OTW with all those great photos. Just give in to the urge. Resistance is futile - Byron will just keep bombarding you with glorious photography until you submit. Byron (if you read thhis), those photos both show beautiful squared blades, ...

Re: Does anyone take the BMI seriously?
Does anyone take the BMI seriously? I certainly do. It took me a few tries, but at my height a BMI of 40 is 280 lbs. Ouch! Unless I had lead for bones, I don't think anyone would disagree that 280lbs for 5'10" is obese. But some people use the numbers blindly and at my current weight of 182 on my f...

Re: Does anyone take the BMI seriously?
Does anyone take the BMI seriously? I certainly do. I'm an anaesthetist, and I regard a high BMI (especially when it exceeds 40) as more dangerous than many forms of heart or lung disease (angina, heart failure, asthma). I agree that not all high BMIs indicatee adiposity, but as a rule of thumb it i...

Re: Set up the C2 on an incline?
I've watched an rowing instructional video from Flywheel Fitness(Austin Tx) where she has the rower elevated but she only does it to demonstrate how to use the legs when rowing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cUa6Wetd-UU I have used the C2 with the rear legs on a bench, but not to increase the work...

Byron, the view is, as usual, quite stunning. How far can you row in one stretch, without having to turn round?

Re: What OTW Training have you done today
Dave, I assume that is a joke.........right? Can it be possible to row well with one oar an inch shorter than the other... You may be surprised at how easy it is. There are many cases of people with very screwed up rigging not noticing. Yes, sorry Roy, I was just joshing around. Having said that, N...

Re: What OTW Training have you done today
I've been thinking about shortening my inboard by an inch on each oar, my thinking is that this will give me more weight on the blades and as my main attribute is strong legs and the legs do most of the stroke doesn't this make sense? All opinions most welcome. Roy, instead of committing yourself, ...
