Re: What's going on with my PM3?
Thanks to jamesg, Citroen, and Carl Watts for your responses. This reply has been delayed by cataract surgery which beached my erg-ing for a few weeks. After helpful comments from each of you -- much appreciated ones -- I tried cleaning off the sensor surface as well as the magnet heads. Pushed the ...

What's going on with my PM3?
My Model C was retrofitted with a PM3 several years ago. Sometime over the past year, I noticed its readouts had become increasingly erratic. I've got firmware v.108 on the PM3. I first noticed problems in the 500K split "speed" readout. The rate would jump by 14 or 15 seconds (always toward an erro...

Re: Looking for a video shot over the stern
Didn't see anything on Muller's site like what you recall, TabbRows, but I appreciate your reply.

Re: Looking for a video shot over the stern
Thanks, Mark. That's good to know, and I'll keep looking for something that works. I've found DVD's from The Learning Company are good attention grabbers, but the level of concentration they require can be a little hard to come by at 0-Dark-30 when I generally climb on my Model C.

Looking for a video shot over the stern
Does anyone know of a commercially available video intended to show a rower's eye view over the stern of his (or her) shell? I love the Holiday Challenge, but 200K meters at my increasingly slower pace demands mostly one hour sessions aboard my Model C. Something to convince me that my "rowing to no...

I've been using C2's chain oil on the rail for five years or so -- as suggested by one of their experts when I sent an email asking about "the squeak." I find I need to apply it a little more frequently than the fifty hour interval recommended for oiling the chain. Don't know about pitting. At the r...

"Quiet Kit" for Model C--Installation Completed
Installed the "Quiet Kit" for my Model C about 50K ago. I'm very pleased with the results which are just as most posters have described--much quieter operation but not quite as quiet as the Model D. Like anything new, there were some different sounds and feel. All have dissipated as the parts have s...

Can't speak to your question as to what you're doing wrong. However, as to the "boring" problem: Yes, with all the wonderful things regular exercise provides--erging is pretty boring. I've discovered RowPro. I certainly don't need to train for racing, but its ability to let you "compete" against you...

A cheap solution to try: fold a "furry" bath mat in half (furry side out) with a foot square layer or two of bubble wrap in the fold--I prefer the large cell variety. Position this with the folded side facing the handle. This works well for me, is easily tried, and permits a wide choice of colors. T...

Re: Seat Comfort
Is anyone aware of a good way to cushion the seat a little? I guess I need a little more padding. I've got a bony butt that gets bony-er when the erging helps me shed some baby fat. Calluses won't help this problem. A small bath mat (the "furry" variety--not just terry cloth) folded in half so the ...

Is it a short, high pitched "squeak"? Try this first-- When it happens to me, I apply a **very** light film of chain oil on the first couple of feet of the top of the rail. Be sure you rub it all off. Enough will remain to fix the problem. Got the advice from C2. Think it has to do with the rollers ...

My problem is not friction but a bony butt that gets bony-er when the erging helps me shed some baby fat. Calluses won't help this problem. A small bath mat (the "furry" variety--not just terry cloth) folded in half so the furry surface is on the outside makes a very nice seat pad. I sandwich a foot...

Long, slow distance rows--50 minutes plus. No PB's or intervals. Best way to make the meters pass--get courses from The Teaching Company and learn while you burn. Great subjects, nearly all at college level, fine lecturers. Find them on the web. All courses are on DVD and all go on sale at least onc...
