For rowing barefoot or in socks, I would think PaulS's "swing sling" is worth a try (I haven't tried them).

http://ps-sport.net/SwingSling.htm

I row in old running shoes. Alissa is getting all scientific here, and she is probably right. But I had the other impression. I think napping after a workout would be just great if that is what you want to do. I actually like to try to nap for a little while before a big row like a PB attempt. When I used lift weights, so many...

1:25 is a great row for a 500m, good job. If I am doing the math correctly, a 1:18 requires 738 watts, so 168 more watts than your 1:25 (570 watts), or 29% more power. So a 1:18 is a very long way off still. To put this in further perspective for me, doing a 1:15 requires twice the power that I am c...

Most of us seem to use the lower damper settings, so 2-5 on the lever, or 105-130 in terms of drag. The lower drag/damper means you have to be faster and more explosive in the drive, and feels more like a fast boat. The high drag settings are slow and feel like a row boat, so there is little or no r...

I have trouble hitting the 0s or any other number regularly when I was just using the PM display. But with rowpro, you have lane marker buoys every 10m, so I find it very enjoyable to settle into a rhythm of starting the drive as I come past the buoy. The broadcast camera has messed this all up for ...

Great post. This is your 3rd or 4th attempt lately to keep us discussing rowing, which is a good thing. I have been rowing 10mps more or less for several years. I agree with everything you say, and would add a few points:

1) it is tempting to row strapless with a slower SR for long easy p...

Maybe I am missing something, but I think PaulS is being a bit of a smart a**. He doesn't think the other guy can row even close to a 1:18, and wants you to egg the other guy on to try and go out at the pace, and then to blow up after trying to get to that pace, or if he can even get there, blow up ...

I am a bit confused by your confusion. Where did you get the idea that the C2 training program was based on the idea of constant SPI? I was not aware of any connection. I am sceptical about constant SPI having any particular usefulness or meaning, and it seems like a whole belief system has arisen a...

Do you row strapless? That is the first thing I would try. Many of us row strapless for training all the time since it helps ensure good technique. So undo and don't use the straps on your feet. Once you try that, I would also concentrate on keeping my feet flat on the footbeds throughout the stroke...

Ok, Mark, welcome back. I am very surprised you are a real person. I can't imagine joining a community, online or otherwise, and starting off my first day by saying something so obviously inflammatory. Did you not realize that you were stirring a hornet's nest of controversy? Had you read this forum...
