I was wondering how much lean (of the torso) everyone uses, both leaning back at the finish of the stroke, and leaning forward at the catch.

I've been trying to keep my back fairly straight in order to avoid back problems, but I was watching the video about the Crash-B's that Concept 2 se...

Avoid dairy products in the hours before your race.

Back when I was running in road races, I would just have some toast with honey on it about three hours before (and water). That would hold me until after the race. Rowing a 2K isn't like a marathon, you won't need a lot of fuel in your b...

The problem with beef jerky is that it's usually very high in sodium. A protein shake made from whey might be a better solution. I often have a whey shake and a glass of grape juice (to get the fast acting carbs) right after my workouts.

I think the aspect of SS that bothers me most came from the study that showed that it did not raise the metabolic rate. As an aging, 52 year old former runner who has to watch his belly because he eats too much pizza, I need exercises that will provide for some "afterburn." That said, I still do SS ...

I had always heard that rowing is one of the better exercises that you can do if you DO have knee problems. Make sure that your shins don't go beyond vertical at the catch. Certainly, if you can run 3 miles, you should be able to erg without any problems at all.

As far as back problems, I...

Usually, people have sore knees because of weak quad muscles and inflexiblity. If you can strengthen the quads, your knees should improve. Slo Boat gives some excellent advice regarding form. Form is essential when doing squats, especially not letting the knees go in front of the toes. I've been doi...
