It's the unexpected interruptions that get me. I row in our garage, with the door open so that I can face out, squint my eyes and occasionally pretend I'm on the water. This, of course, means that my back is to the door to the house, which my husband will open occasionally to make sure I'm still doi...

OK, so I haven't gotten to the Vaseline yet, or the Bodyglide either, though that sounds like good stuff. However, I finally gave in and stuck the foam seat cushion on the erg seat. Someone earlier commented that the Model D has a different seat- they are correct, it's a different shape and that's b...

Middle School coaching

Hi all! The club that I volunteer with is gearing up for a middle school rowing program this fall, and I'll be the point person. Am looking for advice, and maybe some training ideas, as I'm working with these young athletes. We'll have an eight week season, culminating in a long head race (t...

Hey Josh- welcome to the sport! My physique leaned up considerably when I started rowing (relative, of course, to what it was beforehand- I still love chocolate way too much to actually be considered lean). Some advice for your workouts: Start slow and easy, and build your time, distance, and ...

Thanks for the good thoughts (and a few good laughs- I have PLENTY of padding myself, so that wasn't the issue B) ). The vaseline will probably do the trick. (Ooooo... that just sounds so wrong out of context...).

Thanks!

My favorite is a freeform smoothie based on what I have on hand. It might include the following: 1/4 block of tofu frozen fruit to taste and texture (blueberries are my fav) juice (I like apple juice but it's all good) maybe a spoonsful or two of OJ concentrate Other add-ins (primarily for sweetness...

Blisters, abbrasions, and other losses of skin

This is a dual questions from someone who knows just enough to be dangerous (primarily to myself). I don't mind the blisters on my hands too much (I mainly get them on the water anyways), but I get this weird friction on the model C seat that leaves a very raw spot right next to my tailbone (...

Some good stuff has been mentioned, but some other good folks: Andy Hunter KT Tunstall some stuff by U2 whatever is in my husbands CD Player  Occasionally, I'll open the garage door, watch the neighborhood, and "zen out" to focus on my stroke rhythm and power. No music- just counting strokes. K...
