Re: Broken Magnet

Thanks Carl,
Not sure if it means anything, but the monitor reading remained consistent through the rest of the workout. I will try seeing if gluing the missing piece will work.

Thanks for the reply, welcome any and all input.

Broken Magnet

Hey All, Last night as I was about 20 min into a 30 min workout, I heard what I'll describe as a bang ( maybe more of a crack). Being the dedicated erger and not wanting to quit in the middle of a workout, I noted I could still continue stroking and the only noticable difference was a shudder runs t...

Your point's well taken Iain. There are OTW issues ergers will never have to deal with, balance and the "feathering" of the oar quickly come to mind. I do believe focusing on leg drive as the prime force producer and awareness of hand/handle height are particularly relevant. I've seen people pulling...

Thanks Dan for the reminder about form. It can't be stressed enough how important attention to form has to be. In running, we've all seen people's form be all over the map, even to the extent that we are amazed that they can make forward progress at all. It seems to me though. that form is critical ...

Hey Satjat, Welcome to the forum. Having been a runner in my past life also, maybe this comparison will be helpful. For any given distance rowing/erging is slightly harder. A simple review of the present world records for 2000m reveals this. The 2k on the track is 4:52, the same distance rowed is 5:...

Hi, I was a runner for 20+ years, with PB's for 10K of 32:15, 5K of 15:30, 1M of 4:35. What I have notice since I took up erging as my primary sport is that rowing is tougher from a competitive sense. Simply comparing mile or 2k record times for both sports tells the tale. Having said that I believe...

It's all about getting a base of time/meters under you. So, Tyn's right.

John, I haven't experienced any sort of rump discomfort from anything besides time "in the saddle". I seldom have any problem until I'm 45+ minutes into a workout. Since I seldom wear too tight clothes to erg in, I figure every time I break new time barriers a bit of bum pain comes with the territor...

Welcome Connie,

I know this is going to sound a bit goofy but,,,,. A layer of bubble wrap on the seat (the small ones work best, more stable).

Hi mpizey01 Dude,, you're an animal. But,I think your embarking on a self limiting strategy for training. Keeping that sort of approach up for any length of time will probably lead to burnout or worse, injury. Even if only three days a week, if you don't get the recovery just right you'll be struggl...

Hi Cayenne, From my own personal experience and from trying to help others new to the sport, it seems the least improvement to be realized is in trying to increase the stroke per minute. It's like each of us has a max that we reach and gaining more spm's requires a herculian effort for modest gain. ...

If you can can row a personal best for any distance or time in a portion of a longer workout, my hat's off to you, rank away. If you've ever tried to get a PB in an interval workout, that requires some serious grit. You'd be hard pressed to do well in a race that way.

Exactly, Sean. I probably should have been clearer in my last post. That's the same approach I take.

Hey JB, I have on occasion combined two workouts into a single for logging meters. Usually, this was a result of mentally wanting a time or distance goal for a day, that I physically was having difficulty with at one sitting (due to any number of reasons). Typically, these workouts were no great sha...

John,
I think, generally, your right about using your easy days as technique days. But,, am I the only one who decides to do a easy technique day, only to find myself sore the next day and needing another easy day to recover?
