Tips

Pain: The best tip for dealing with pain is to split the piece up. Instead of a the whole 2k just concentrate on the 500 your on. The first 500 doesn't hurt. The second 500 is where you need to concentrate on getting to the half way point. The third 500 is about making it to the last 500. I know it ...

What Nosmo said about breaking it up really helps. I hate timed pieces. In fact I would rather do a 10k then a 30' (stupid I know). The best way I have found to break it up is 4 minutes, 3 minutes, 2 minutes,1 minute starting at 18 spm and then going up by 2 every time. Do that 3 times but the secon...

Knuckles swelling

So the season ended a few weeks ago and I switched to straight up erging. In the last few days the knuckles in my right hand have started to swell up. The knuckles in my left hand also hurt but not as badly. Since I am a starboard I figured that I am pulling unevenly but wanted to see if anyone else...

For myself I know that it helps to take a few days off. Especially if there is long amounts of travel. I had two days off then a long steady state piece and then the 2k. It seemed to work for me

A week before my last 2k, we did some long distance training and I think it really helped. The three pieces that helped the most were Monday: 20 hard 10 easy by @ 18-26 spm by 10k Wednesday: 3 X 2k with 5 minutes in between around 15 seconds above your 2k time Friday: 2 by 6k First one do the first ...

I usualy go into 2ks knowing what I am going to pull within a second. So I concentrate on pulling whatever split it is that I am aiming for. My only pre-race ritual is slapping myself right before. I find it's a good way to get angry/pumped.

college rower's perspective

As a college rower you don't really think about putting the handle down. If your rowing with someone, especially someone you will be seat racing in a few months, putting the handle down isn't an option. The only time I've put down the handle in front of team mates is when it hurt because I had torn ...

How hard are you going?

How hard are you pulling? I tore my right meniscus (the cartiladge in my knee) and for a couple months after that rowing and erging especially hurt if I pulled to hard but after some time pulling 2:00 splits I could pull fine again.

Another reason to negative split it is if you haven't pulled that piece in a while and your not sure where you stand. Say your pulling a 2k and your time is anywhere between 7:00-6:50. Going like: 1st 500: 1:47 2nd 500: 1:45 3rd 500: 1:45 4rd 500: 1:43 Lets you at worst pull a 7 as opposed to going ...
