Re: Rowing routine to complement CrossFit 4 weight loss
Hey Andrew- I'm in a similar boat (bad and unintended pun!), and although I'm not an expert I can share what my rowing coach has me doing. I'm Crossfitting 4x/week, meeting my team for indoor practice 2 times a week, and then doing some long and low erg sessions at home solo. Her biggest concern for...

Re: Day 1 of 74-week program
Eric, Good job getting back at it! I'm sure you'll see some pretty great progress quickly. FWIW, I'm just getting back on track after gaining about 30# with a new office job... yikes! Which means I have a total of about 50# to lose which doesn't come off as easily at 40 as it did pre-kids and whack ...

I think you'll see that split coming down very quickly as your fitness level rises. When I first got back on the erg, my comfortable rate was around 2:45. Now, I'm fairly comfortable with something in the 2:20 range. That being said, you might want to check and make sure you're getting your power fr...

Reading Puddles
I'll be talking with my OTW coach about this in the morning, but thought others could chime in here as well. What do your puddles tell you? Any particular diagnostic things you look for? Can you see if you're digging, washing out, etc. by looking at them?

I tend to revert to our OTW warm-up format. In case you're not familiar with that, it tends to be (some variation of the below, depending on your coach): 10-20 strokes each: arms only arms and back/body 1/4 slide 1/2 slide 3/4 slide full slide Then I tend to row full slide at a 16 for a bit, 18 for ...

I can jog 3+ miles now! Before I got back OTW (and on the erg) 3 months ago I couldn't do that. We had an odd number at practice on Friday, so I jogged. It was amazing for me- it's been *years* since I could do that. I sleep better. Increased fitness for me has meant a lot of body compositon changes...

I'm wondering how hard you're hitting it, and why? I wouldn't think proper form would involve hitting yourself in a way that would harm the chest strap. I'm sure someone else can address that more decisively, but it seems that you need to have control into the body so you can get handle heights and ...

Xeno, how do you think the RowPerfect compares to using a C2 on slides? Do the slides compensate for most of the 'negatives' with the fixed erg? I currently have a C2 and was planning on buying slides for winter training, but I begin to wonder if that's the way to go. Thoughts? (Since you've seen th...

Re: OTW times Vs. Erg times
What is your category? 1x speed as a percentage of C2 Erg speed (m/s) (From AUS Gold Medal Standards) Junior Men: 87% Lwt A Men: 90% A Men: 86% Junior Women: 91% A Lwt Women: 95% A Women: 91% Paul, does this mean that 1x speeds are slower than erg speeds? (Are you multiplying erg time by the percen...

Re: Training band and heart rate...
That is not exactly correct. You are always burning at least the same or more fat the higher the intensity. At 100% effort you are burning more fat than at 70% but the primary energy source becomes carbs. I'm not sure what exactly your point is, John. You can read the charts on page 10 here http://...

Re: Training band and heart rate...
Hi Maria- I think the theory behind the varied workout rates is that at lower rates you burn more fat and less carbs, thus helping with weight loss by burning your stored fat and using less carbs that are in your system already. For example, the UK C2 site says that at UT2 you're burning 60% fat/ 40...
