Re: Sleep Apnea vs. weight loss
These are great posts-I'm glad your wife's sleep apnea has been diagnosed and treated. Sleep apnea is under diagnosed in this country compared to countries like France and the UK (from what I've read). It is extremely serious and more education and publicity is needed to help people diagnose their s...

Re: Help Me Break 2:15/500m
Hello all, The machine is only a few months old-I bought it brand new and I'm the only one who uses it on a regular basis. And yes, I meant I raised the damper setting up to 9. Yesterday I managed 10 minutes straight between 1:50-2:00 /500m at between 22-25 SPM followed by another 10 minutes at arou...

Re: Help Me Break 2:15/500m
Done! I just increased the drag up to 9 and I was hitting 1:56-1:58 for 3 minutes with 1 minute rest in between. Did 3 500s. At that pace I was just pushing the edge of conversational zone, and I still feel like I'm working hard. I appreciate the advice-I tried to lean forward a little more at the b...

Re: Help Me Break 2:15/500m
That sounds about right. Maybe I am not leaning forward enough at the start? But I do lean back and pull to my sternum. Is that the secret- moving the handle a greater distance?

Help Me Break 2:15/500m
I've been rowing now for about four months. I'm 45 years old, 6'5" and 285 pounds. My workouts are either "long, slow" rows of 20-30 minutes where I go about 275/500m and about 19-21 SPM, or 500m sprint workouts (Usually do short warm up 3-5 minutes, then 3-4 500 M sprints followed by a 5 minute coo...

Re: Rowing to loose weight
For now, 30' 5ks are fine to get you started. As long as you control your food intake, you benefit even from light rowing workouts. Actually, you are doing more work than it appears, since you are having to move a lot more weight up and down the slide than the average person. But, as you gain fitne...

Re: Rowing to loose weight
Please help me understand something here: The OP says that he has been rowing 5k in around 30 minutes, and was told that that is too slow to be an effective workout. However, in the "Workouts for Weight Loss" post, both of those conditions fit in the guidelines ("5-7,000 meters" and "30 minutes") I ...

Re: Adding Weight Training
Just remember form is everything in weight lifting, especially at your age. I am 45 years old, and was seriously into fitness in my 20s-early 30s, but "let myself go" for the past 10 years. I'm just getting back into it now. I've had lower and upper back problems, crackling knees, tennis elbow. I be...

Re: Crackling Knees
Hello, I am new to the forum, in fact this is my very first post. I have crackling knees as well. No pain, just a slight tingly sensation at times. I notice it when I'm sitting at my desk for a while, and sometimes after I row. It does appear to be getting slightly better, but I am on my way to see ...
