Re: HR vs WL

I have been rowing for many years (just past 15 million meters) and have a question about weight loss and aerobic exercise, specifically with the Concept2. STRICTLY ON THE BASIS OF LOSING WEIGHT (my emphasis), is it better to row 'as hard as you can', or use a heart rate monitor and keep your heart...

Re: Heart Rate and Weight Loss

Rick http://www.briancalkins.com/HeartRate.htm According to that, my max is 138. I spent well over an hour in the mid 140s yesterday doing an HM, so I don't think that the calculator results have much meaning. Bob S. Bob, The meaning is that you workout over that max you are not in the aerobic rang...

Re: New Model D???

That is apparently the new design but I much prefer the old one ..., the look of the machine is somewhat worsened What does it matter? When you're sitting on the erg you're not looking at it. You could always get a custom respray job. The newer model D will have the PM4 (when that launches). There ...

Re: Heart Rate and Weight Loss

DJ: I checked through my reference files to locate the Karvonen Heart Rate Calculator recommended by one of our rowing physician team mates. The link provides suggested HR targets for weight loss and improved athletic performance. I hope that this helps. Rick http://www.briancalkins.com/HeartRate.h...

Here's a link to Dr. Philip Maffetone's method (Want Speed? Slow Down): http://www.rrca.org/publicat/slowdown.html Here's his 180 formula: The 180 Formula To find your maximum aerobic heart rate: 1. Subtract your age from 180 (180 - age). 2. Modify this number by selecting one of the following cate...

Hi, I bought a Concept II model C last October via Ebay. It sat on my porch until December, when I started and haven't stopped except for the month of April, when I moved from Wisconsin to Rhode Island. I weighed 298 lbs in Dec. and am now down to 252. I think the precipitous weight loss has ended ...

FWIW, I finally fixed this. It turned out the clicking sound was not coming from the sprocket but from one of the shock cord SCAMs. I tightened the shock cord--problem fixed. :D
