Re: Transfer of rowing to running

Thanks Steve that's some good perspective especially from someone as experienced as you in the longer marathon runs. I definitely feel like rowing has boosted my aerobic capacity significantly. And it has been surprising to see how it has helped with things at work. The only 'distance' work we do is...

Transfer of rowing to running

Gday all, The past few weeks I have really gotten into my rowing and have been posting a little bit on this forum. I was curious about transfer of aerobic capacity to running. I am in a combat unit in the military and we have a number of fitness tests centered around running and other things that mo...

Re: does weight training and circuit conditioning really hel

From the "Rowing Faster" book by Volker Nolte, a National level rower is strong enough when they can: Squat 1.7 x's body weight for one rep Deadlift 1.7 x's body weight for one rep Bench Pull 1.2 x's body weight for one rep I am guessing you can achieve all of those now so getting "stronger" will p...

Re: does weight training and circuit conditioning really hel

I did look at wolverine however I struggled to understand it correctly. Coincidentally in the beginners plan I have chosen to follow there are 2x steady state rows split up by some interval stuff and a row for time rather than distance. My plan was to use one of the stead state rows to do something ...

Re: does weight training and circuit conditioning really hel

I will work on getting that stroke rate up. A lack of fitness or at least confidence in my fitness probably leads me to rely on pulling hard but less. So much to work on!

Thanks again for taking the time to answer my questions.

Re: does weight training and circuit conditioning really hel

Thats some good info thank you! I rowed a 3x2k the other day with 5 minutes rest. I kept each 2k under 7 min (high 6s) getting slightly slower each set. Definitely had more in the tank but it was pretty spicy. My best 500 is 1:22 and that was when I jumped on the rower for the first time back when I...

Re: Question about strokes per minute and damper settings

Wow 30spm seems so high. I feel like I loose bulk power when the spm gets much above 28. Almost like im become less and less efficient with each stroke. Might play around a little and see what I can get. I rowed at about 28spm when I got my best 500m (1:22) but that was in my first week of rowing. W...

does weight training and circuit conditioning really help ro

Good afternoon every one. I have recently coming into rowing as a personal pursuit after after competing in various sports at various levels from boxing to powerlifting. I never lifted weights whilst I was boxing through my teens and early 20s focussing more on aerobic fitness. Some guys did, but I ...

Question about strokes per minute and damper settings

Good afternoon Today I rowed 5000m at damper 6 setting on my local gyms c2, I stuck to mostly 1:49-1:51 per 500m which saw me complete the row in 18:20 flat. If I used an RPE scale the difficult throughout the row was about a 7.5/10, my stroke rate sat around 19-20 the whole way and whilst im certai...

Re: New to rowing

I will check out what's on at work we might be away but if I am available my family are in Brisbane so it could be a good excuse to head down for it! Just checked out the pete plan, looks pretty straight forward and solid. Just to spend some time building a bigger endurance base i'm going to run the...

Re: New to rowing

That's awesome thanks for the heads up. I am in Australia, posted up at Townsville at the moment. Depending on what is going on with work will depend on how often I can row. We are pretty busy this time of the year with lots of exercises and trips that mean I don't get to train how I would like. Luc...

New to rowing

Hey everyone. Im pretty new to rowing however my training history includes amatuer boxing, and kick boxing at 81kg including state titles (aus) and a few international fights. Last fight was 2012. Since I flipped the table completely, ate my way up to 100kg and started competing as a novice in stron...
