Re: Newb rowing to improve fitness.
^ Bingo. Follow the beginner petes plan. Its based on 3-5 workouts a week. Keep lifting and follow that. Just be mindful of your form if your doing it after strength training, as since you are new to the rower your form is likely not going to stay consistent, and your body will already be tired afte...

Re: Hit a plato
I had to laugh, I am sorry. Plato is a greek philosopher, and it caught me off guard. One thing you might consider is researching how to do kettlebell workouts. It strengthens your entire body and is very intense cardiovascular workout as well. Your PB is way faster than mine (7min), but, I love doi...

Re: new from italy
^ and listen to this guy he has a ton of insight into training people. Yeah, you seem pretty small. It's not a bad thing, you just have to realize that there is a lot more physical strength needed for continuous rowing then for cycling or running where your low body weight would be a good advantage....

You sound like me buddy! Big strong guy who gets huffing and puffing after a while...nothing wrong with that. Make sure you do the 1000m world indoor rowing sprints!

Re: Million metre row in 90 days
Oh yeah its possible, there is some people during the team challenges who do well over 1 000 000 in a month. I am not one of those people though, lol.
Why dont you sign up for the world erg challenge and see how much you can build up in a month?

Re: new to rowing and some question
Watch plenty of technique videos, if you can put a mirror to watch your form, and dont do hard intervals for at least 4 weeks. Row by time and not distance for however long as you want too. Also the C2 has a list of awesome stretches to get your mobility up to par which (for me) helped prevent injur...

Re: With a drag factor of 140 I am still hung up at 7:30
But yeah I've deadlifted 500lb and squated 400 and I don't go above 125 on drag factors for 2k's. I might go up to 140 for a 500m sprint, and if I'm feeling really good I MIGHT keep it at 140 for a 1000m but never longer then that. The DF isnt a matter of physical strength it is cardiovascular stren...

Re: With a drag factor of 140 I am still hung up at 7:30
For barbell exercises, I would focus on High-bar squats (low-bar if preparing for a power lifting meet), dead lifts, power cleans, barbell rows, and military press/bench press (for balancing/injury prevention). In off season time OR when your km are relatively low I would focus on strength, so 5 set...

Re: What is this lead for?
^This is the answer. Its the cord for the Heart Rate monitor probe, but it looks like someone has taken it off (therefore you cant use a heart rate monitor). So its essentially a useless cord @ this time.

Re: Adidas Powerlifting 2.0??
I use the reebok weight lifting shoes they make (cant remember the name of them). They are designed for crossfit workouts, so the forefoot is almost as flexible as a runner, but the heel is raised and hard like a lifter. I love them, my heel is almost totally on the erg when I'm in the full position...

Re: Heart Rate Monitor for PM5?
Unfortunately polar is not compatible with the PM5. Ant+ or Bluetooth only. If you have problems with the newer soft strap monitor (like me) you can buy the hard plastic style ones for it. It will be cheaper for you too. Some say that the electrode gel works good but- meh. I like the hard plastic one

Re: Weight Training For Rowing
Google starting strength by mark rippletoe. He was a powerlifter now he is a world renowned coach. His program is simple but effective barbell training Day A / Day B Low bar squat 3x5 / Low Bar Squat 3x5 Bench Press 3x5 / Power cleans 3x5 Deadlift 3x5 / Overhead Press 3x5 Week one would be A,B,A, We...

Re: New to rowing
Wow, you have an awesome physiological advantage already for rowing. Would be interesting to see if you need to order the extra long slide though. I like rowpro as mentioned above ^ The first 2 weeks of any plan are strictly technique oriented workouts, and they have a little animation that has perf...

Re: Resting Heart Rate - what "spike" shows overtraining?
I disagree with Daniel above. Resting rate is very variable, my lowest resting rate is around 40-44 but it does not mean that if I have a resting rate of 60, I can't do a proper workout ! There are many variables affecting the HR other than overtraining (stress, food digestion, lack of sleep, etc.)...

Re: Lactate Threshold Power Duration
Those are good points, although there's a lot of similarities between rowing and cycling, the biggest difference is the standard racing distance. The 2k rowing test has nothing really close to this comparable in cycling (except maybe track / velodrome style cycling). The standard distance in cyclin...
