Good Year Off
Well, I just decided that since I hadn't done any rowing in about a year, I should probably start again since school is winding down. Now I don't think I've ever had to do the "get back in shape" thing...until now...workout suggestions to start me out, anyone?

bruce - I lost about 15 pounds in my first month. Just be very methodical, make sure you get your workout in every day, and eat a low-calorie, nutrient-dense diet. My workouts included: -half marathon -2 x 20 min erg -30 min erg, 30 min bike/elliptical -40 min erg in morning, 40 min any cardio at ni...

update
Well, a couple weeks back I hit 157 pounds (31 pound loss!!) and right now I'm staying just above 160 so that I can drop down when necessary, so the lightweight goal is now complete. Even better, my lightweight PR is a 6:44.8 as of today, which is only 4 seconds above my heavyweight PR, and about 7-...

cardio
I started the year in pretty much the same boat (pardon the pun) as you. My starting weight was at around 188 and I'm currently in the midst of an attempt to reach lightweight for spring and summer (I'm now at 163) due to the glass ceiling of sorts placed on my progression as a heavyweight by my hei...

actually...
I'm doubtful that I have "incredible power," but I'm pretty decent...I'd be in both the heavyweight and lightweight 8's (about half of the HW8 is lightweight)...maybe a four too...and part of the overall goal is to maintain or improve my erg score...we shall see if I can do it, but I figure nothing ...

Holy Toledo! I'm down to 168! I mean, I AM doing a lot of cardio, but that's WAY fast...though the loss rate is beginning to taper off a bit, if this gravy train keeps up, I'm all good!

Going to lightweight
OK here's something I've been playing with for a while, and I think I'm going to attempt it. At 5'8", there are obviously limits to how low I can get my 2k time. However, I have managed as low as a 6:40. Problem is, I'm not a lightweight, either. I'm weighing in at about 176-178 currently. This isn'...

YES
From experience, if you can afford it, definitely see a chiropractor. I've had back pain on and off for a time, and come to find out, I had a misaligned pelvis, and some misalignments in my mid-back. Makes sense considering I used to be a catcher, and my rowing technique is probably much less than p...
