Dude.

1. (On the water) Rowing clubs are cheap to join - I don't know ANY amateur rowers with their own boats.

2. Yes. And. So. What.
Walking and running are even more archaic. Surely games like Polo and grouse shooting are more middle/upper class, perhaps seen as a sta...

Agreed. Most people work best with some overlap between the three phases of the drive i.e. legs-back-arms.

Not being vague but the stroke adopted will depend on your physique - I have big thighs and shoulders so most of my power comes from there, and my stroke has little movement from my...

Cool, thanks for that.

Agree on the warmups and cool downs. I tend to try focus myself ont he row during the warmups and check the figures afterwards while stretching to analyse the performance.

taking rest days is a wee bit frustrating - I know I need them - my body tells me ...

I work up to the rowing throughout the day.

About now I'll decide what to row, what time I am aiming for, whether to try a PB, row a set distance for stamina, distance, do fast splits for speed etc.

I'll write this down somewhere as a physical affirmation affirmation of my go...

I prefer to row just above the intended split, say at about 1:54 when the target is 1:53 and then batter along for the last 500, ramping up steadily to the finish. I'm not looking at the clock at all, just concentrating on the stroke and trying to push myself as hard as possible, particularly with 2...

How many people try to row twice a day ? And if so what would you do to try prevent RSi or overtraining ? I'm not doing mad distances, probably something like 10K in the am, with the intention of doing a moderate 5K plus 8x500m splits in the evening.

I am trying to avoid overdoing it and...

Maybe you're pulling with your arms too much - are you pulling at the start of the stroke or when your legs are extended ? Pulling early will add stress to the arm/back muscles. Your legs are more powerful than your arms, so they should be used to start the stroke.

Just a thought - are y...

Pete,

If you can row with someone it could help, someone to pace yourself against/race against. Rowing on your own can get boring so... I often row in front of the TV, put on a sports video - something which I don't really need sound for. Basically I find that my mind can wander and if I'...
