Re: Erg Marathon training -- advice please for newbie (thank

Hi estragon. I would take a look at this http://indoorsportservices.co.uk/training/guide/marathon_intro I have started the 80,000m plan got to week 7 then stopped due to an unwelcome episode of bronchitis -just restarting some MP rows up to 1hr but not pushing hard as HR remains up 10bpm over normal...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

70km cycle on a really beautiful Autumn morning 7k@2:07 pm Thanks for the advice Ed and CW I've started Terry O'Neills 80k MP jumped in at week 5. I found the (1500m@5k pace 2000m MP)*3 without rest and done at 1:59 and 2:07 the hardest of the week. The 27k was an extra fitted in as I'm away on holi...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

HM this morning 1:27:40.9 2:04.6/500 shaving 27 seconds off my last time. Pleased with that, it certainly seemed easier than before perhaps a bit more in the tank, HR 150@5k and 157@20k topping out at 159@ finish. Feel good but a couple of small pesky blisters on hands. I was doing more cycling than...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

25k yesterday was just a feeler for considering FM@2:08 pace ie 3hrs. It was sub maximal but I was glad to stop! (I feel fine this am). HR was 149 averaged, 150 at 20k 156 at finish but I had picked up the pace in the last 1k, I've never seen my HR >165 yet so its probably around 90% max. I've been ...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Not really, this was my third ever-all in last 6m. Just building some endurance, I am considering a FM but at the moment it seems a bit too much. I've started doing some intervals once a week to try and improve my speed and power and will have a go at improving my 2k time in the next month, an app o...

Re: Expectations

Some progress. I did 6*500 on 1'r on friday managed 28spm for the first 2 then 26spm. average pace for the 6 1:51.5 fastest 1:49.9, I might try 8 with 2-3min rest next time. I need more practice to shorten the stroke and reduce my power /stroke or just get stronger! At the other extreme I had a look...

Re: Type 2 diabetes and victory

They85 Yes and No! Type I is incurable short of pancreas transplants- a few people with type I diabetes and end stage renal failure get combined pancreas and renal transplants, they then no longer need insulin but still have the many complications the diease has left. For those with recently diagnos...

Re: Expectations

Edward thank you again I'm beginning to realise to really improve I have got to plan ahead with my training, I think I will feel a bit guilty doing hour row ar 2:15 but after this morning's intervals I beginning to understand. I do need to build some mental toughness too, it's when you're body says ...

Re: Expectations

Edward many thanks for this thoughtful response. Looking at my stats I'm doing my longer rows 5k -60min in the 8.8-9.1 w/stroke range. What I've yet to master is to keep this power/stroke when rating at 28spm+ for a whole 2k. Perhaps I submit to my perceived level of discomfort too soon I've noted s...

Re: Expectations

Thanks for the replies: HJS I think you're right I need to gain strength by doing some faster rate stuff maybe 1min on 1 min off would be a good start. I've done plenty of long rows at 18-20spm thats a comfortable zone, but this endurance building work seems not really to have helped in improving my...

Expectations

Hi guys, I would appreciate some training advice as I do seem to have hit a plateau. I'm 54 5'9 and a light lightweight at 66kg, I've been training on the erg the last 2yrs and doing some mountain biking. In the last year I've upped the distances and reg row 5k on work days first thing typically at ...
