Leaning to Port
Hello everyone I'm training for my first single head race (sculling) and my coach is telling me I keep leaning to port. He says I'm dropping my right hand lower and is wondering if I"m pushing more with my left leg, causing me to not row in a straight line, creating a zig zag to correct my direction...

Re: OTW Stroke Rate and Heart Rate Monitoring
I'm hoping I can jump in on this conversation because I have questions as well. I currently have a polar HR monitor that has the watch and chest strap, so an older version. I thought about upgrading to a GPS model (not sure if I'd have to just buy a new watch and still use the chest strap or what). ...

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Awwww little ol me earned bragging rights. I feel special. :D A quick update on my back and neck pain. Just last Monday I was told I should consider quitting rowing for a while and to go see a physiotherapist. Basically my chiropractor gave up trying. I couldn't get in to see a physiotherapist until...

Re: First 2k - need training advice
Seems as though I have pulled my back yet again. I have had issues for over a year with certain trigger points where out of no where cause my whole upper back to seize. I've been having massage therapy, acupuncture, cupping and chiropractic care but something has tweaked it today. It hurt a little b...

Re: First 2k - need training advice
Today's workout was a 5k and some leg exercises. . . . Kb squats on bosu ball Don't waste your time squatting on a bosu ball. Squat to build strength. Is you are a surfer or skier, maybe messing around with a bosu ball for balance is useful. Otherwise, leave it in the corner to gather dust. I have ...

Re: First 2k - need training advice
My old coach came to visit at practice today and I asked about training for my 2k. He said I should increase my drag factor to 125 (been currently doing 115) and he also suggested to do longer sessions are also lower stroke rate to focus on power. Thoughts? Today I did 4x1k 4:15.8 4:19.2 4:21.7 4:2...

April, here's a link on viewing drag factor on a PM2: http://www.concept2.com/service/monitors/pm2/how-to-use/viewing-drag-factor Thanks Dan. I figured it out today. My old coach came to visit at practice today and I asked about training for my 2k. He said I should increase my drag factor to 125 (b...

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
When I first got my erg the card kept causing the monitor to freeze up. I just stopped using the card and always write down my stats and what the workout was and enter it manually after each time I row. For April and anyone else who cares: There are different things you should know about the erg. H...

Re: Post Xmas Fat Loss
Assuming you didn't back on a huge amount of weight over the holidays dropping back down to where you were before should not be hard. Get back to eating healthy, hit the gym and erg hard and don't forget you water and fiber. I don't think indulging over the holidays is a bad thing. I also don't thin...

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
The log book doesn’t exactly track your personal bests. Let’s back up a sec. When you choose a workout on the PM, Say 2K, do this by hitting B, A, A, on the buttons on the right side of the monitor. A being the top button. Make sure the fly wheel is still then do the race. Depending if you are usin...

Re: LUNA-TICS TEAM ROOM: Year-round "Looney" fun.
Thanks Thor and Karyn The one competition I want to do is in the TO area. I checked out the Site. I think I would be in the masters category, i'm 34 and 147lbs. I just don't know what race day is like. I'm sure if I ask at the registration desk they can point me on where to go. I know I won't win. I...
