Training

When I came back to erging I started by using a heartrate monitor, doing 65-70% HRR steady state sessions. Before my HR training I had been rowing at a sub-2:00 pace but to stay within the appropriate HR range I was rowing 2:20+. I stuck with it and a couple months later...I was still rowing 2:20+. ...

Rowing is hard and ridiculously hard if you do it on damper 10. I can get on the exercise bike or stairmaster etc. for over an hour easily but it's a different story on the rowing machine. I remember back in college I used to row on 10, with proper technique, and 30 minutes would kill me and give me...

I have found that the same drag setting (not damper setting) feels harder on my model D than on the model C's at the gym.

I rowed 30 mins at 1:59 at the gym. At home I row 30 mins at 2:20 with a lower drag. Some of that is because I am exerting less effort at home (to stay within HR range) bu...

Thanks for the advice.

I'm not sure, but I think probably rowed my 2k in '93 at about 26 spm but maybe even less since it was on damper setting 10. I haven't done a new 2k trial since I picked up erging again but I'll see what happens here in a couple weeks after I get adapted to my new Model...

Training

When I first started rowing about 11 years ago I had the erg set at 10 and I rowed about 18 spm for all my steady state workouts. Trust me, it sucked. I recently have started rowing on the erg again and now have the damper set at 4-5 (about 120-130 drag factor) but I still row 20 spm. I'm 6'3 and I ...

I'm in a similar situation though it's been 10 years since I rowed on the water. I am going to try building an aerobic base and to that end I am doing 7500 meter sessions 4 times a week at about a 2:00 pace. Every 2 weeks I'm going to raise the length 500 meters until I reach 10k. At that point I'll...
