Erging Boredom vs Cross Training

I find that when I am doing longer distance pieces on the erg (30 min +) that I cannot stay motivated and get extremely bored sometimes leading to quitting. Anything less than that amount and I am fine. However, on the water this does not happen, and on long runs and cycling rides outdoors this does...

Re: Lower Back Pain

Could be tight hamstrings, even with the stretching they could still be tight I have had the same problem. All of the muscles down there are arranged in what is called the lower cross (abs, hip flexors, hamstrings, glutes, and lower back) which all affect each other. When one of these muscles is tig...

Fairbairnism

Novice sophomore in high school. I find that instead of trying to get my blade as far away as possible and coming up the slide as far as possible like coaches say and making the stroke 'robotic' if you will, that if I just imagine the most effective and powerful way of sending the boat going the far...

Bad Coach

I am a novice sophomore in high school and would like some help answering a question. The coach of our club has no idea what she is talking about with anything including rowing even though she has been doing this for years. I realize I am a novice and have a lot to learn, but I can honestly say I ha...

Marathon

I am 15 years old and a novice sophomore in high school. 5'8, 132 lbs, and attempting my first marathon row with a group of friends over spring break. I've only done an hour erg piece once and that is the longest I have rowed, however I chose not to include the meters in my signature because the rat...

Re: Breaking 7:00

Fantastic week of PRs pulling a 7:27.7 2k, 1:38.9 500, and 19:52.1 5k! Mostly stopped weight training and starting to focus on endurance more, seems to be helping quite a bit and making it more enjoyable.

Re: Breaking 7:00

Forgot to mention my max deadlift is 335, max squat 265, max bench 185. So I'm pretty strong as well, just don't have a whole lot of weight to throw back on the erg.

Breaking 7:00

Hello, I am a sophomore in high school in my novice year of rowing. I'm a male, 15 years old, weigh 130, and my height is 5'7. My PR 2k time is a 7:29.6, not all that impressive. Recently I have hit a major plateau on my erg progress, which is disappointing because my goal is to break 7:00 by the en...
