Hi Everyone! I'm back! I've severely fallen off the rowing bandwagon due to working 2-3 part-time jobs and going to graduate school full-time. I *finished* school on 11/1, woohoo!!! :D I used to average 35-50K/week, and now I'm lucky to average that in a couple of months. The worst part is, I gained...

Hello, everyone!

If anyone likes percussion, CDs by Dragon Ritual Drummers and Bellydance Superstars are good to mix in there. The drumming changes paces, so the music can start out slow, speed up, slow down again. Does well for some interval work.

No, I don't bellydance.

Yup, I don't perspire, I SWEAT! And for some reason, I seem to sweat more on the left side of my body than the right. Wow, Widgeon, you're almost there! And Surf Scoter, you're kicking tailfeathers, too! And sounds like you're going to hit that 200K instead of the 100K, hey? That's gotta feel pretty...

Everyone is doing great! So cool!! And an HM for Hev, WTG! :D Every meter is progress, don't forget that! I know that some of those folks cranking out 500K can make my piddly amount of meters seem, well, piddly. But for me, it's really amounting to something--I feel great, and I'm burning calories, ...

How's everyone doing? As of 12/10, we'll have two weeks left on the HC, so that gives ya's an idea of where to be on your halfway mark. I think halfway would be 12/8?? I have to go count.... But anyway, I only rowed a bit over 5k, but that put me just over 100,000 meters. I'm halfway there! :D --Jen...

Hey Widgeon! Great tips, especially the pec/chest stretching! That's a tough area for me, that and hip flexors. I agree about the taking a day off every few days. Seems like that first day I row after having some time off, I can really do a good row and not even feel like I worked that hard. Rest is...

Anna, So sorry to hear about your knee, but you're right--knees are kinda important when you go skiing! And pain is a sign your body is giving you for a reason, and I always believe in paying attention to that. There will be other holiday challenges, right? We row for health, so sometimes it is best...

Hey Surf Scoter! You're over 1/4 of the way done already, WTG! I've even found that breaking up my rowing into twice daily things works, too. If I'm not used to the 50k/wk thing, I can really feel it in my trapezius muscles (the part of the shoulders/neck that people will knead when they give you a ...

Hey Everyone! Great start for everybody!! Every meter is progress, and that will help with those holiday calories. I need all the help I can get! Aiko, congrats on the new little peanut. :D Glad to see some famililar names in with the new ones, too--Margaret, Widgeon, Aiko, Annabassand, and S...

Hi Surf Scoter! I'm gearing up for the 200K for this HC. I've rowed over 44K so far since it started. With work, I'm going to have to take it easy the next couple of days, but I've only got 6K left to make my goal of 50K/wk. It would be nice to get ahead of the game a bit, in case of "problems." :sh...

Holiday Challenge!

Hey Ducks! Who all is doing the HC this year? Are you doing 100,000 meters or 200,000? Anyone got some goals for this HC they're shooting for? Anyone doing any full marathons or half-marathons? I'm thinking about doing another half-marathon. I've done 2 HMs in the past, but I've been such a slacker ...

Back at it!

Hey Ducks! It's been awhile since I've posted, and I've seen so many new names that I decided I better re-introduce myself! I just turned 50, and I'm a HWT (hoping to change that!). I started rowing a couple of years ago, and it's helped me knock off over 40 pounds, but I've gained 12 of them back, ...

Great job on the JVTC, everyone! I hit my goal of 200K, and I would have done more except for a death in the family that required out-of-town travel. My m-i-l died at age 82. She had advanced Alzheimer's Disease, so it wasn't totally unexpected. Her death produced an odd mix of sadness and yet relie...

I call mine, "The Beastie."

I kinda like that Iron Maiden comparison though--I *do* have a love/hate relationship with The Beastie.
