Re: Pete's Plan Spreadsheet

After a week of Henley RR it's clear that good crews win. Good means a relaxed simple style; long, accurate timing, sequence, rhythm, fast action where needed, slow where not. And likely many hours on the erg doing just that. The miracle is that crews do it all together while pulling hard; but it lo...

Re: Noob observations (C2 vs Skillrow)

It doesn't work so well with the rowing due to bending of the wrist Bending the wrist is a major and dangerous fault. Keep your wrists, forearms and hands flat and straight: the loads are very high. Rowing is done with the legs, since they are large and offer a long movement. The wrists are only us...

Re: Pete's Plan Spreadsheet

I am looking for a clear concise spreadsheet for the Pete's Plan. Does anyone have a link? Whatever your target, first step is make sure your technique won't cause you injury: https://www.concept2.com/training/rowing-technique Then use it to keep the work in each stroke high. This work value is Wat...

Re: Bearing drag accounted for by the Concept2 PM

my machine always feels harder to pull for the same drag factor than the machines at my local Y and local rowing club Maybe you bike to site and are warm when you get arowing. My machine always feels hard to pull when I get on it. As I warm up, it gets far easier; maybe it's just warmer blood flows...

Re: Plateauing

I’d love to get back to 1:56 over 10k. Any tips?!
Wouldn't we all; I haven't done a 10k in years. However I've had three clogged coronaries bypassed, and doing ok now.

Cholesterol does not help bloodflow.

Re: Form check

Suggest you relax and use the recovery sequence described by C2 on their site (hands away, then swing, then slide); not all at once.

I'd avoid cocking the wrists at the finish, it can cause problems, though you're not doing it so much as some seen here.

Re: How to improve watts/distance and stay within heart rate......

No matter what I do I cant seem to get faster or produce more watts. Power is the algebraic product of stroke length, pull force and rating. So do what you can, but keep it short. Long work is for warming up, not for producing Power: better use the C2 wods. Some of your notes are scary: 107kg on 5'...

Re: Seating of my hands

The 1x is a very unstable platform, but we have to take her as is. Wandering from side to side, never level and corkscrewing in wash and suchlike are all to be expected. Don't waste time on adjustments. Ignore it and don't stop. In a 2k race we have to pull at least 200 strokes without stopping, and...

Re: PM3 Accuracy?

A 5'6 Male (1.7m) with "fit" weight 23-1.7² = say 65kg might be able to pull a stroke of length 1m at average force around 300N, according to age and health. Which stroke is worth 300Nm. Pulling 20 such strokes per minute implies a Power of 300 * 20/60 = 100 Watts. Which more or less is what you are...

Re: Training advice for runner new to erging?

interested in spending 1-2 hours a week rowing year-round,
The C2 WODs (workout of the day) look good for that. They can be done at any rating, and are mostly intervals.

Re: How fast can I go?

I am less convinced than James that a common W/kg ratio is applicable to all. No way can it apply to all: Power in rowing depends on style, age and health. I'd suggest that anything over 1W/kg could have a training effect; and that 2W/kg is a first target, easily reached using standard rowing style...

Just keep at it. If something breaks, such as the clutch, you'll know.

Re: Calculation of heart rate zones

For most training, UT1 is enough and can be easily reached at rate 23-24 if using standard technique. With a good stroke (worth say 10W-min) at rate 24 Power is 240W, so even at 100kg, well over 2W/kg and enough to avoid losing our seat. I've dropped to 5.5 to 6 Watt-minutes (work per stroke) and 12...

Re: Why Have Unverified Results On The Rankings?

I use mostly ergdata but this a.m. used the PM5 code for a 2k (av 124W), since I sometimes get the ergdata sequences wrong. If I load without code, it's a promemoria to see where I was for something similar, such as a single interval in a set. The wods include work such as 12x1 minute; and by the ti...
