I've been expending all of my time and energy this past week coming up with new and creative excuses for not rowing-- and its been a very creative week. Feek free to borrow any of these that you'd like: 1. I'm too tired/ I worked too many hours today. 2. It's the weekend, and I deserve a day off. 3....

Well, one week of 2007 down with all resolutions intact. I managed to row 6 days of the week, run my 4 planned runs, and even took down the Christmas lights and decorations. Just one baby and no surgeries in the week, so maybe it was deceptively easy. Thanks for the fortune cookie inspiration, Susan...

Hi everyone! I'm a little late getting in my introduction, but I've been logging meters for the team all week. It seems that the weekend is the only time I have to sit down and check the forum. I'm an OB/Gyn in eastern Oklahoma. I am married with three sons, one cat, and two monster dogs (Irish wolf...

Welcome,Susan! Congratulations on signing up for the on-water rowing experience. My husband and I used to row with a team, but since I moved away from the city I've been staying on dry land-- until we hit the lake in the kayaks we're planning, that is! I ran my first race in many years last Saturday...

I just posted on the Healthy Habits thread, but thought that I'd weigh in here (pun intended!) also. I've been at 164-163 for over a year now, after watching my weight creep up over the several years before that. I'm primarily a runner, and I have a mostly healthy diet, but obviously what I've been ...

Thanks for all of the inspiration from all of you. I finally managed to make myself get on the erg before work today, and ended up doing 8000m. My goal is to erg 3 days a week and run 4 days a week-- I've signed up for a marathon (running) this November. I tend to ignore small goals, so I've found t...

Several people have said that I should be running 20 miles at a stretch just before the marathon. To that I have to say that if I've already run 20 miles, where's the mystery in attempting 26? ;-) I'm currently training for my ninth marathon, and the best advice I ever heard is that 20 miles just h...

I represent the longer-legged water fowl-- but no quacking for me, either figuratively or professionally. Storkdr has been on my car license plate ever since I started my OB/Gyn residency several years ago, so it was an automatic choice for the forum. I'm glad to see lots of health professionals inv...

I didn't row while pregnant, but this sounds like it's probably related to the increased swelling associated with pregnancy. It's the same problem that causes pregnant women to have more trouble with carpal tunnel syndrome. There's not much I'm aware of that will help except delivery, but you've got...

Sorry to take awhile to respond, Alissa (and others). I've been hoping that the Troll would crawl back into his cave, which seems to have happened. I downloaded the Jane Brody article, and it's excellent. There is conflicting evidence about the drawbacks of bisphosphonate therapy, but the important ...

I've gotten all fired up to post today after some verbal sparring over on the osteoporosis thread, so I guess I'll jump in here, too. You all are very inspiring, so I'll share some of my own goals with the hope of having to be accountable. I'm primarily a runner who does erging for cross-training, a...

Just to correct a couple of gross mis-preconceptions: I'm not a "he". Why assume that a doctor posting on a women's forum is male? Those "untold number" of births prevented were due to contraceptives, not abortions. That's why I can't give a number-- who can count potential events? The rest of your ...

I've been following this topic and trying to stay out of what seems to be an endless and nonsensical discussion, but I just CAN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE! I have decided to take time out from my busy day of being an OB/Gyn "quack" to add my two cents. Let's see, where does one start? Let's get away from quo...
