Yeah, I'm in for the folly.

If I do at least a 5K a day, I'll cross the million meter mark before month end!

I mix up the training though.

Another option is a pair of "water" socks like wind surfers wear. Especially the ones with tops that come over your ankle. No padding in those soles. But they ain't "cheap". work well for the water if your boat doesn't have shoes. :)

I tried the Rugby Test yesterday.

Being Fresh went out way too fast the first 500m of the 1K (1:51; 1:46 on the first 10 strokes). Came to a dead gasping stop with 169 to go. Got a breath and finished in 4:03.

I was spent at the end of the first 750 although I managed to...

WalMart sells slip on "Vans" style sneakers for $5-$7. Leave them on the footplates with the straps slightly losed and you just slip in and out. Buy them 1/2 to 1 size smaller than your running show size so they fit snuggly but not cramping the toes. If you buy them on the way home after wearing sho...

I agree with the need for a goal or goals before setting out on any fitness program. The reason I erg is to help improve my strength and technique on the water. I do have an interest in reducing my 2K times and keeping my other times reasonably in the middle of the pack for my age group. However, ev...

Wow! That's what those two adjusters are for. I thought one was simply as easier way of moving the other.
When I got my "B" in January, I just set the slit openings until the drag factor = 120, about where the drag factor on the "D" at the gym was when the lever was on 6.

It's available "used" on Amazon for under $20. # 430,892 on the best seller list.

Also you can get Charles Kuntzleman's erg workout book for anywhere from 83 cents to $2. Better order something else or you'll pay more to have it shipped than you do for the book.

In Track, interval means the rest phase and that's typically jogging, then building up the last 20 meters or so to your workout or target pace at the start of the set/rep. Starting "cold" on the erg will lower your overall workout time slightly.
Long periods( 5-8 minutes of rest) at lower rates...

I broke my 8 minute barrier at the Big Bend Ergomania in Tallahassee on Satruday. 7:52.0 Sure beats the 8:39.7 I had last year (after only erging a month)!

Not having my own erg, meant I had to use the one at the athletic club. Since I couldn't make it every day, I followed an adjusted W...

Man what a race. Thus far 4 finishers, four disappointing capsizes, a four, buch of doubles and two singles still out on the water. Just wish they'd update the site more often.

undergroundstrengthcoach.com has a whole slew of pictures of these devices that have been built in trainers' garages. Also s nice overview of exercise routines using them. However, most appear to have been developed for weight lifting, rugby, et.al.. I'd be interested in seeing someone take these de...

I erg only at the gym. We have a couple of meatheads who try to do 10Ks on 10. The C2 memory indicates they can row it at around a 2:15 pace.

Yesterday there was an older guy in khakis who sat at one of the ergs for about 3 minutes. Jolly pulling away. Then gets up and goes to an eplitica...
