Re: PM5 did not record my timed piece
+1 Here. Just to provide another example, am using v18 and not consistently getting workouts transferred to flash drive when finished. Menu button pressed and hourglass display indicates it should be working. For reference, not using iPhone, Android, Ergdata, RowPro, Garmin or any Bluetooth devices....

Re: Rating Up Question
I just think that a lot of folks new to rowing will not immediately grasp the concepts related to power and strokes unless they have a cycling background. I don't know of runners thinking in watts. Given how many times something like damper setting has to be explained to newcomers, I would think tha...

Re: Rating Up Question
BobS says: "For a lot of people there is not much variation in the stroke, so they increase their speed by raising the rate." For individuals new to the activity, I think this simple statement adds a lot of clarity. What it also implies is that for others, their speed may not be increased (especiall...

Re: is 3500 meter average a day enough to progress?
Hanzo - You keep mentioning "progress" as if this has some definition or meaning. TBH, I don't think you have given this any thought and, therefore, will not have any way to measure your outcome. You won't be able to develop a plan of any kind that has value to you until you define your goals nor wi...

Re: 2K Pacing Question
Quick follow-up: Even though it's been just a few days, I needed to re-check things for myself and did incorporate suggestions from others. Specifically, intervals on a non-weight lifting day and slowing the pace a few splits. Yesterday evening, able to complete 4 X 1K with 5' active recovery withou...

Re: Rowing form video
Check out this video of Rob Smith breaking his own 300m record. Look at his legs: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fhupkUAL_r0 Daniel - Watching this video, I notice that his knees are hardly bent on the recovery and he appears to have a very short leg drive. Of course, his rate is extremely high pr...

Re: 2K Pacing Question
The weights where a not so smart idea. If you do race paced work you need to be as fresh as before a race.A good pacing approach is doing a first session at 2k plus 3, with a faster last. Take the av from these for a next time. 2 weeks further. The week inbetween do 8x500 on 3 rest. Same format sta...

Re: 2K Pacing Question
Thanks for all the suggestions. I rowed this afternoon with all intention of doing 4X1000 with 5'rests at my 2K race pace. I did one (it was hard) and then mentally, physically or both just couldn't bring myself to do more. Maybe it was the weight workout in the morning, recovery from the weekend ra...

Re: 2K Pacing Question
You bring up a good point. The intervals I have done are short/intense (eg, 30"/30"r with multiple reps and multiple sets). Otherwise, I do long sustained pieces usually 60 mins and longer. I have never done multiple 1K's for example like you mention, just the occ one-time test pieces at that distan...

Re: 2K Pacing Question
Caviston pacing is start a 1-2"/500 over TP and then 3rd 500 @TP and finish 500 tp-1" Lindsay - That is almost exactly what I was trying with my tests at 1500 meters (using 2K target pace), but kept dying at the end. So slowing down 3" from TP for 1500 meters, really helped in my 2K race (as James ...

2K Pacing Question
Participated in first 2K race event this weekend. Never tested myself at this specific distance until the actual race. I did several 1K and 1500K trials to determine something of an expected pace that I thought I could anticipate at 2K. However in training pieces, I had significant difficulty just h...

Re: Lactate Threshold Power Duration
Good stuff there. I watched the video of the cycling one hour record. It was made on a 250 meter track in Switzerland. He rode about 210 laps at approx. 17 secs each once up to speed. His times per lap were very steady and there was definitely no sprint at the end. He took two extra laps, got off th...
