Re: How is my Form?
I have to agree. Most of these "how's my form" videos look like attempts to model a textbook stroke...no real wattage being generated...and therefore, nothing for the brain trust to provide any useful feedback on. Row like you don't know that you're being recorded and mix it up with time trial pulls...

Re: Combine rowing and strength training
The usual response you hear for these questions is, it depends on your goals.
If you want to focus on endurance fitness, row more, lift less.
If you want to focus on strength, lift more, row less.
Me? I do both, so I am fairly strong and fairly fit

Re: Sometimes you just have to: Make it happen!
I rowed a half marathon this morning. Even after eating my breakfast, I had not planned to do it. I had been thinking of a training plan and completing it in 2024.(I have been rowing 10k m regularly) I sat on the rower this morning, deciding what to row and just set the clock at 21097 meters' and w...

I bought a couple of Vornado fans at Costco a while back and put one on each side. Keeps me plenty cool.

Re: Rowing in College?
For what it's worth, when I transferred to Cal in the 80's, I walked in the offices where the Crew coaches were. One of the assistant coaches asked if he could help and I and told him of my interest in rowing for Cal. I had no experience save for working out with some of the rowers from my JC (Orang...

Re: Gloves & Dupuytren's
Hi all, Last month I had an operation for Dupuytren's contracture. I am keen to get on the rower. However due to the fact they say hand trauma might be a contributing cause. I am wondering if I start wearing gloves from now on. Does anybody have any recommendations for decent gloves? minimal and go...

Re: Your Mix of Sports?
In terms of focused training time, I'm about 50:50 with rowing and lifting. I do the power lifts and the power versions of Olympic lifts. I also make sure I get in at least 10,000 steps everyday.

Re: Music and keeping steady stroke rate/pace
When I do a long row (long for me is 10K or greater), I like to listen to something I have an emotional connection with so that I sort of get lost in the music and let the rowing take care of itself. For me, Keith Jarrett solo concerts: Paris, Koln and Bremen/Lausanne are among the best in my book. ...

Re: single leg squats ? useful ?
I cycle them in with back and front squats. I can't do full pistols due to lack of mobility in my hips and knee but I can go as low as a 17 inch box. I will go a bit higher to a 20 inch box and do those while holding a 45 lb kettlebell. As Henry said, they are back friendly and will train any muscul...

Re: Will Rowing + Pull-up’s = Injury?
I'm also a rower and pull-up person. I love pull-ups and cannot walk past my bar without doing a few. I find these exercises quite complementary. I do feel your fears of injury from rowing are unfounded. Rowing is very leg dominant. The latissimus muscle is mostly a connection between the handle an...
