Is it not muscle that moves a boat? I would hardly consider the basis for propulsion to be some superfluous mass. I would imagine, hypothetically, that given all other factors equal, a boat full of 6'2 165lb lightweights would move a boat faster than a boat full of 6'2 146lb lightweights if the dif...

One was the once/twice weekly lifting with low-weights high-reps many sets integrated with lots of high- and low-intensity aerobic training. This produced very few results in terms of strength increases, although it did help increase tone and definition -- aspects not particularly directly valuable...

Improvement in 500 meter pieces might be hard to come by. A 500 does not really refect the shape you are in, it is more about how stong you are. I have meet people that could go under 1:30 on a 500 and could not finish a 20 min piece. If you want to judge your improvement in fitness I would suggest ...

The distance on the erg is the most important part. To increase you distance try taking the rating down 2-3 spm for the next one and see if youcanget 1-2K further. As far as the weights go, the problem with high weight workouts is that it builds bulky heavy muscle. This muscle increases weight, incr...

I didn't have knee replacement but I did have my ACL repaired. My doctor said that biking was the best thing to do after the surgery because it was low impact. I figured erging was low impact as well. I asked him about erging, I had to explaing what it was, and he said low/no impact workouts that bu...

When you are going through the drive (pulling on the handle) put all the preassure on the tips of your fingers. When you are erging there is not reason for any part of you hand below the knuckle to be on the erg handle. Just let the fingers take all the preassure. Stop trying to strangle the handle.

I coach at the college level. The most important thing for you is DISTANCE, DISTANCE, AND DISTANCE. Just do a ton of meters. Don't get on the erg for less than 10,000 meter. Work your 10k, 15k, and hour pieces down. Do that for a couple of weeks and then 2k test after 3 weeks. Your time should drop....
