Mike<br />I love your posts and have learned so much from you. I am glad you mentioned multiple workouts in your warm up post. Suppose that Crash B was set up as a tournament, with the top "sweet" 16 seeded rowers (same age and weight categories) set up in brackets. To make the final, you would race...

Health and Fitness
My 7th grade son is doing a science fair project and is interested in how exercise affects health. We have considered some basic questions -- i.e. How does gender effect heart-rate response to exercise. And how long does it take an average 7th grader's heart to return to normal after exercise. Of co...

I am a borderline (?) obsessive compulsive and a raging hypochondriac. I cannot watch programs dealing with disease lest I wake up that night with those symptoms! I spend 1 1/2 hours a day working my body out and an equal amount of time analyzing and fretting about the same workout. I fear that a he...

first off, I admit, I can be a big wimp. I just began doing some WP workouts. I have rowed 5k and 10k rows 3 times. I did the rows in my cool, shady, basement that has a temp that does not vary much from 60- 65 degrees. I moved my erg to our old, non insulated, stuffy cottage this weekend. After doi...

I am trying out the different workouts in the Wolvering Plan for the first time. I rowed my first 5k and 10k in the past 2 weeks. I tried the 6 x500 (going to work up to 8 x500!). My 2k pb is 7:10.9 Today I rowed just one 2k, did not really try for a personal best and did 7:11.4. I could tell the di...

I printed out C2's Competition Training, expert, and the Wolverine Plan. I noticed the Wolverine plan has a level 1 workout that is 8x500m with 500m active recovery in between pieces. The C2 expert workout suggests 6x500m with 3 minutes rest in between. The Wolverine Plan is dated August 2001. I am ...

Strokes per minute were around 26. I am at 28 spm on 2k. I rowed at damper setting 10 which is a 203 df. I like the harder pull, (it reminds me of wrestling!). I must have terrible technique----I love reading Rangers posts----but if I tried to row strapless like he does I would end up in the next co...

Thanks Neil and Bill for your help. Well, today, after my strength workout, I tried 5k. I was nervous! My time of 19:17 is no great shakes----but I am just relieved I made it. A 2k gets me pretty whipped and I was intimidated by the longer distance. But just as you guys stated, the slower pace and l...

I have always rowed at a damper setting of 10---which I just found out gives a drag factor of 203. When I set the damper at 5, the drag factor was 138. I usually row 2k at a 149 pace. The wierd thing is that when I was trying out the level 5 setting, my pace slowed to 151. I felt I had to work harde...

I have never rowed more than 2k in a single session! My typical pace is 149/150 and 7:15. PB is 7.10.9. What pace should I strive for at 5k? Is there a rule of thumb for moving up to 5k and 10K as far as pace goes?
