Looking for a Single Scull

I am located in Southern California, but that does not preclude looking in other geographical areas in the US....

Looking for a Single Scull

Folks:

Do any of you have a good resource for looking for good, used singles? My son needs a boat. I try to keep track of things on the row2k website, but there has to be other resources as well. We are looking for an Empacher, Filippi, Fluiddesign or other comparable boat.

Thanks!

How Many People Row?

Okay - one child of mine if off to college and rowing - another just starting.... I know that rowing is a growing sport. This year, our local rowing club had about 200 high school age kids try out for the crew. It seems that the word is getting out these days. My question is - does anyone have any a...

Polar HRM

I have an F11 and smack my heart rate strap all of the time....

Without the strap, it would be tough to get your heart rate on your HRM.

Sevenseat07: Whatever you decide, I would suggest that you discuss it with your family physician and/or a nutritionist that specializes in athletes and/or competitive sports. If you belong to a high school team, ask around - someone is probably using a good personal trainer or other resource. You do...

5K Time

Not sure about a 5K time, but my daughter (who rows in college) needs to make 6K in 26 mins (2:10) to be able to practice on the water.

If they can;t make 6K in 26 mins, they get to erg until they are in shape to make the time. Until they do, no on the water practice.

Weight Loss

Okay - I have to be fair - the weight loss is not *just* a result of rowing.... I have made major modifications to my diet and chart my calorie intake. Prior to that, just like you, I was rowing a lot and not losing weight. As soon as I started watching my diet, the weight started coming off. Congra...

Million Meters - Who Woulda Thought....

...Rowing would have kept my interest for these months!

I started in September of last year as a 258 lb 49 year old woefully out of shape. I hit 1,000,000 today. I've dropped 35 lbs (45 left to go) and have watched my resting heartrate drop from 88 to 58.

Onward to 2,000,000!

Last Christmas I went through this purchasing process. I was looking at the Suunto T6, Polar F11 and Garmin Forerunner201. My use was primarily for erging and a little running. I wanted, but didn't need, the GPS functions of the Garmin, which is really much more of a cycling/trekking computer. I als...

Coming for someone nearing 50....

I turned 49 this year (back in January). I started rowing last year at the ripe age of 48. Why? Because I was fat (258 lbs), out of shape (had trouble walking a mile), *and* started realizing what was important in life. I had always been active in my life. Did some team sports in High School, but wa...

Two weeks later....

Dropped another 3 lbs in the last two weeks. Last time I checked in (4/3), i weighed 228 lbs. Two weeks later, I'm at 225. Still erging 3 times a week, running two to three times a week..... Now down 33 lbs since 9/15/05. Forty more pounds to go. By the way, in that time I have rowed 934,330 meters....

Dande1114: While Alissa has hit the nail on the head (hi Alissa! - it's Glenn) from the weight/diet perspective, there are a few other things to think about as well when it comes to recruiting: You are a sophomore in High School - are you still growing? My daughter is 5'8"/180 and will be rowing hea...
