This may be purely personal but...

For some reason I find it easier to look at meters rowed on the display, and to be counting
down by whatever distance-per-stroke that I am aiming for, than to look at spm or 500m pace.
It could be something to do with the fact that that part ...

Right, some general advice is reduce saturated fats but be sure to replace
them with mono-unsaturated fats - avocados are a good source, ditto all nuts.

I still have saturated fats in my diet - butter and cheese (in moderation)
regularly, and yogurt - but my cholesterol is down ...

Yes well I probably do not need to tell you that I was like the cat that got the
cream when I got those results. My doctor was very surprised.
Here are things that I did, I found everything in this list by googling -

1. I eliminated milk from my diet. I was already on low-fat m...

I would like to put in a contrary opinion and a vote in favor of
lunatic web sites. In Feb this year, my LDL cholesterol level showed up at 135.
My doctor told me it should be below
100 because of family history, scheduled a retest for April, and
said we would decide what to<br...

Neil,

I see what Mel is saying (I think) and it's that your number is
energy per stroke, not power per stroke.

To plug in some numbers to illustrate -

1. Say my spm is 25, and my power is 150 watts.
2. That means I am outputting 150 Joules per second.
...

Agh sorry what was I doing asking that question - of course you
said watts per stroke.

Well I modified my rowing style and noted a major improvement
today. This may be a bit specific but I will describe it anyway in
case it's useful for any other beginners working on their ...

Hum, almost exactly the same as my experience. So either
the running improved your fitness in a way that the rowing was
not doing, or the rowing on water improved your technique,
or a bit of both - any feel for which?

<!--QuoteBegin-Gregg+Aug 14 2005, 12:45 PM--...

Thanks everyone for replies. Yep my 2K warmup was very
short. And thanks for the pointer to the 2K training
program - didn't know about that and it's just what I was asking about.

I tried 60 min last night with an eye on keeping my back straight.
I can see the benefit of ...

My longest row ever tonight - 50 minutes and it felt OK so I
will bump it up to 60 minutes next to make a round 1 hour.
My pace is very variable - I
was trying to go for quality as Neil suggested but even with a
steady spm and a _feeling_ that I was pulling evenly, my pace<br /...

OK thanks Michael, thanks Neil.

I can see that I was overrating the worth of my current daily
training, by thinking it should have been pushing down my
2K times. Hi all,

I started rowing in Jan. My 2K time gradually wended its way down
to 7:48.7 by about May. Then I started reading this forum and realised
that there was really a right way to row, and I started trying strapless
rowing and getting a lower SPM. I didn't bother with kee...

Hi,

I am new to rowing - started in Jan and somehow I
unexpectedly (but pleasantly) caught rowing addiction.
