THanks for the replies, John, your description of it moving around is exactly my experiece. THe sneezing part too. Shortly after I started this thread, a sneeze got me pretty good, but I rowed anyway when maybe I should have taken the day off. Later that night an involuntary muscle contraction of an...

Was wondering if anyone else had ever dealt with this issue. Strained my intercostal muscle(s) on the right side, and its now been 4 or 5 weeks with no significant improvement. I'm still rowing, which doesn't really bother it, especially with slides, but sometimes a sneeze, or when I'm sleeping or i...

So I got slides for my birthday, tried them out for the first time today. Have been erging about nine months, 42K a week, with a current 6:43.6 2K.

My impression is that they are entirely different, and entirely the same. My usual stroke rate is around 25 for typical training, really had to ...

Actually its not something I'm particularly concerned about, was more curious about other's experience relative to when they came to a plateau. For me I believe its a question of being able to pay the price if I want the lower times. More a slowing of progress than anything else. TomR, most of what ...

Curious about other people's experience with the dreaded plateau. Have been erging about 8 months, 4 days, 42K a week. I'm 40, and probably in the best aerobic shape of my life because of the erg. I've made dramatic improvements, but have hit the wall recently. I realize at a certain point I will ha...

Looking seriously at buying slides, had a few specific questions. Not that interested in the debate over whether or not they improve times. I occasionally feel strain in the lower back, and the consensus seems to be that the slides help alleviate this. My question is do they still work the core musc...

Can't go wrong starting at 3 or 4. These numbers are probably the closest to actual sculling (so I'm told) and starting here will be easier on your lower back. There is a lot of available info on this subject. Start with the FAQ section of this website, and there is also downloadable training manuel...
