weights and rowing work well together. Just listen to your body and make sure that you do not overtrain. I have found that rowing makes me stronger in my weights, especially in the upper back.

Training
the rowing on the machine is tough, it requires mental toughness, especially rowing on your own. Sometimes when you feel like this you might be overtraining, or you might need to make it fun again. I guess motivation is everything.
