I bought my Model D back in December, and I've gotten some decent use out of it. Our team's spring season just ended (Southeast Junior Regionals in Aiken SC) and its into the offseason for me. I plan on doing lots of erging this summer - my goal is to be in the 6:30's by september. Anyway -- I need ...

Because you are limited in your ability to pull the chain by the resistance to some extent, the easiest way to row higher ratings is to increase the speed of your recovery.

While it is usually good to get up the slide quickly, make sure you are still doing so at a controlled speed.
<...

I often get that dazed and fatigued feeling right before I strap in for a 2k test. Sometimes I'm so tired that I don't feel up to warming up before a big piece. I don't know why this is.

Are there any good meals / snacks that will get you pumped full of energy before a big event?

He actually has a similar build to me, except his arms are much bigger b/c he lifts weights so much. I'm about an inch taller than him.

Good advice there. I'll try some of that stuff. 2k test for my team tomorrow though

I'm worried my time is going to suffer a little from being sick a few weeks ago - my training the past two weeks hasn't been as rigorous as usual. (Mostly on water, 40 minute pieces at a 12) We're working...

I'm also trying to shave some time off my 500m PB (which i set 2 months ago)
I've gotten a lot stronger since then - my 2k time has dropped 10 seconds.
However, every time I sit on the erg and start a 500 - I can't finish it.

I typically make it about 250 meters, and then my hea...

I agree with Simon.

From a physics perspective, you will want your arms to be as parallel as possible, because creating any left/right forces on the handle are wasting energy that should be used to pull the handle straight back.

I try to shoot for shoulder-width apart.
<br...

I actually heard that it doesn't matter how fast or slow you complete the drive of an exercise - but that you are supposed to do the recovery part slowly.

i.e. Throw up the bar on a bench press, but then ease it back down nice and easy for the next rep. (Similar to rowing at a very low ra...

There is a bit of a freak on my crew team.

He's enormous. (His biceps are easily twice as big as mine)

However, he just plain doesn't know how to pace himself. Yeah - but that would give you an (albeit small) advantage on your stroke strength (depending on the cord)
