Rule of Thumb for 6K --> 2K split

Hey, My coach has had all of us doing lots and lots of volume of SS and long interval training. I recently pulled a 6K at a 1:58.2 Split, and am expecting my first 2K at the end of January. My question is what is the rule of thumb to scale between pieces what a split should be, namely 6K to 2K split...

Hey ckaiserca, I can't say I've done any sculling, but the experience I've had with height differences in fours and eights is that I find it extremely hard to keep with a stroke who is much taller than me. I know traditionally the bowman is the lightest, but I recommend having your wife stroke becau...

Difference between 2003-2006 and 2006-Present Model D

I'm looking to purchase a used Model D off Ebay and I noticed that the one being sold is one of the older Model Ds. Is there a significant difference between the older and newer model D other than cosmetics?

Thanks

There is nothing more refreshing or terrifying to think about before going to bed than the fact that ergs don't sleep, they just wait until next time at 6AM.

Designing a Rowing Tank for Team

The club I row for does not have an indoor rowing tank. I have been doing research on the topic of possibly using the university's olympic size pool as the tank and putting a removable unit with slides and riggers on the side of the pool (for only one rowing side) or building a removable truss acros...

We have an old 8 named The Sixty Bucks. Back when it was bought, everyone chipped in $60 to buy it. We have an atrocious boat named The Hobart, that we affectionately call the Ho. It's always amusing to hear the coxswain say, hands on the Ho, roll the Ho up and over heads, roll the Ho down to waist,...

Erg has a tendency to creep backwards while I row

Whenever I row for longer pieces my model D has a tendency to creep backwards, as much as half an erg's length depending on how long I am pulling for. I was wondering if anyone had some insight into this problem. Note, when I pull 2ks or shorter pieces, my erg will more often than not move forward s...

Hey Elamonta,

The answer to your first question is no, I was a freshman novice last year. The answer to your second question is I honestly don't know, it depends what sort of boat(s) my coach wants to make with the team's lights. I'm guessing you rowed in a LTWT 4 last year. Who did you row for?

Point 1: Communication is essential in order for rowing on slides. One thing I recommend is for the bowman to put down his monitor and rely on the stroke seat calling out stroke rating changes. A lot of times the monitor can be a distraction, and having it either lowered, or down, lets one focus on ...

I've been fond of variety, because it's my opinion that a fresh attitude towards a work out is more productive than sitting down on an erg and dreading the piece to come. I'm a fan of: -45sec on, 15 sec off on slides -SR pyramids, 2min ON, 2min OFF, going up two ratings each interval and then back d...

RE: Blisters

I've been a believer that callouses are a rower's pride and joy because one knows what it cost to buy them. The only advice I have is to use bar soap because it dries out your skin. Hand maintenance is vital, and keeping intact skin is critical. A few things I have done: If a blister is still intact...

Starting a 2K erg test

I'm entering my second year as a rower, and I was wondering if any of you could give me some advice about how to effectively start a 2000m piece on an erg. I have pulled enough 2ks to learn that although they are not pleasant, quickly settling into one's target split/SR is of vital importance. I am ...
