Re: How to make my C2 model C feel better?

Make sure the moving parts inside the cage aren't rubbing anywhere. I had a perfectly good Model C that had that issue because it was missing a screw in the cage that was causing a rub as you row. Easy fix.

Re: Barefoot

I have rowed barefoot and enjoy the fact that your feet don't overheat while rowing, but I am now a big fan of Crocs while rowing. They're airy and, for me, provide the right amount of sponginess.

Crocs

I've been rowing in Crocs and have found them to be excellent -- they breathe, they deal well with the force from compression, and they stay put! It's a near-barefoot experience without the rubbing.

How to check total mileage on a PM2?

I've forgotten how to check the total miles on my erg with PM2... Do you press the "OK button" with the "up" arrow or the "right" arrow?

Also, does it reset itself to 0 if the batteries go dead?

Thanks in advance.

Hope nobody minds me posting this link here. Burk was one of the greatest oarsmen of his time and just passed away at age 93. Seemed fitting to post it here.

Here's another silly question—is it possible the front mount is installed backwards? I've noticed a surprising number of people mount it backwards so it's resting on the actual wheels.

Just thought it was worth asking.

Which model do you have? I had a similar experience with a Model B, but not nearly as severe. It ended up wearing down a hardwood floor under the front "feet" of the machine. You may want to refer to my thread a little ways down from this where we discuss what people place underneath their erg. Conc...

Citroen is right, of course. I just had plexi in my head for some reason. In fact, I did e-mail the US C2 folks and they said they could mail me a mat. I'm just wondering how necessary a huge rubber mat is. In any event, here's the very friendly e-mail I received: The part number for the mat is PN15...

What's underneath your erg?

My wife and I use a Model C regularly and I was wondering if anyone out there recommends anything for for the surface where the machine rests. We used to have a Model B that we used all the time and it actually wore away a small spot on the hardwood floor in our old apartment. (I think the Model B w...

The bungee might be stretched. It is relatively easy to tighten. Indeed, the bungee was stretched. There's too much play in the chain. But also, the chain was stiff from dirt. And yes, the handles were stored improperly, so it stretched the bungee out over time. Many thanks to Nosmo and Citroen for...

Thank you, Citroen. I went to the online guides and now see that my used Model C has a little over a million meters on it. Good to know.

So I take it there's no odometer on a PM1?

(Love this forum, by the way.) :D

Total mileage on an erg

I noticed people will frequently mention how many total miles are on a machine. How do they know? Is there some kind of internal odometer somewhere or is the figure based on doing the math in logbooks?

Ever seen damage from handles stored improperly?

I know you're supposed to leave the handle up by the cage for any extended period of time, but I noticed many, many people don't. I've been told it stretches the bungee. Is that correct?
