Anyone else doing the Row Series V?
There are some posts about it over on the reddit.com/r/crossfit website, but I haven't seen anything here, and was only able to find one post from a couple years ago about Row Series 2. This week's workout is a little over 6k (6,666m) which is fine but the first 1,111m is scored in addition to the o...

Rowed a 10k this morning and knocked over 20 seconds off my PB!
34:30 total time, 1:43.5 split, at 24 spm.

Re: Tips for competition newbie? Stroke rate, drag?
I'm a bit late to this thread, so I don't know if you're still checking it, but oh well. I'll still contribute my two cents. I teach an intro to erging class, so I see a lot of beginners, with all sorts of backgrounds and potential. The thing I see people struggle the most with wrapping their minds ...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Not quite a personal best yet, but I have high hopes. I did 6 x 500m, 1 minute rest yesterday to gauge my projected 2k pace, and averaged 1:34.3, which should put my 2k at sub-6:20 (of course I can't be totally sure about that until I actually pull one). I'm particularly excited about this as the la...

Re: Beginner: What is a decent drive length?
My drive length is generally between 1.42 and 1.45m, according to my iphone. To put that in perspective however, I am 25 years old and 6'4", so I would expect it would be longer.

Re: Beginner technique review
In addition to what others said, I would work on your recovery. It may not seem important on the erg (since the actual drive is what really matters), but hear me out. Right now you have very slow hands coming away from your chest/body over (as others have said, it should be more over), then you zip ...

Re: What shape is your curve?
I know that when I was rowing in college I was always told to be aiming for a curve similar to the lower left one- explosive catch, and as much area under the curve for as long as possible (showing continuous connection throughout the stroke. In reality, both then and now, my curve is similar to the...

Re: iPhone erg app
I just found this app and perhaps it's just acting screw on my phone (I have an iPhone 5) but when I try to enter a split (say to calculate how long a 10k would take at a given split) it defaults to putting the colon in the tens place. So if I enter "1450" for a 1:45.0 split instead it will think I ...

Re: Athletic fitness - 1000m
It sounds like you're already pulling a very solid piece, and if you're doing it at a 32 your form can't be too bad. If anything I would try bringing the rating up. Generally 1Ks are rowed between 35 and 40, depending on the type of stroke you prefer and your height- shorter people tend to go at hig...

Re: 24hr erg training
I haven't done a 24 hour row (definitely one of my goals though) but I did do a 100K row a few years ago, and really the training was pretty similar to the training for a marathon. It's the same sort of thing for running where people rarely ever do more than 20 miles or so when preparing to run a ma...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
Hi, yesterday I managed to improve my PB on 10k by 45''! I am now at 38:30.3 which is finally something I feel comfortable bragging about. I follow Pete's beginner plan and am progressing very nicely. Actually, yesterday I wanted to row well above my previous 10k PB, as I had a very hard week behin...

Re: What's the lowest split you can pull at a 20?
I've never tried for lowest split... In college we would occasionally start out a land practice with a pyramid series (10 strokes, 20, 30, 40, 30, 20, 10) at a 16, going for max average power each time. But the shortest piece I've done at a 20 is 2K, which I averaged 1:43 for. I doubt I could get do...

Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!
1 hour piece, 20spm cap (with an average of 20spm throughout the entire piece): 16,418m, 1:49.6 split/500m. Not my PR for an hour, but definitely PR for a low rating cap, and I'm amazed I managed it! I'm working towards doing 17k in an hour (right now my best is 16,711 going at 23-24spm) and severea...
