Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
I've given up using HR as a guide on my long rows. I have a significant drift that doesn't seem to correlate with my rate of perceived exertion. If I drop my pace to keep my HR down, I wind up training a very weak stroke. Good decision. I think that a weak stroke can occasionally have its place in ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
Oh bad...not going well currently  Thanks mate. Tbh, this isn't too unusual as I think the muscle pull leads me to change how I walk etc and that then aggravates the nerves slightly. It might also be that I've been doing single legged wall sits as a replacement for squats, and I'm not sure if ...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
I was fine with it as I was wanting to go slow and easy but I must have been a little more worn out that I realized. It's a good moment when you can control your ego and accept whatever is right on any given day. It's a skill that isn't appreciated enough as there's a big difference between lazines...

Re: rower wanna be
I can't add anything to what Mike has said, so just stay patient and look for small gains as it will not suddenly become easy. If it's hard work then you're having to adapt to the effort and every time you try again you will be a little bit better. Admittedly this may be such a small amount that you...

Re: First interval
Welcome to the forum. It looks like you've hit the nail on the head, that your cardio endurance needs to be worked on. I'd recommend to maybe follow the Beginner's Pete Plan? This is a great way of keeping an eye on your progress over time and it ticks all of the boxes that you need to improve your ...

Re: rower wanna be
Any advice is welcome! I'd also recommend something as simple as wall sits to strengthen your legs. This could be 20-30 seconds at a time, and then build up to single leg wall sits. No equipment, other than a wall and stopwatch, is needed and it can be very effective if you need to build leg streng...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
Thanks fellas. Tbh, I'm fairly sure it's down to my stupid idea to try and do stiff legged deadlifts, as a way of working my hamstrings more, so there's a greater chance of injury especially as it's then coupled with my lack of experience and probably bad technique. I used to enjoy the hex bar, but ...

Re: Pondering the Beginner Pete Plan
Do you typically warm up for the distance pieces? I've only been warming up for the speed intervals, e.g. 6x500, 3x1000, etc. FWIW, I don't warm up for any distance over 5k, even if it's a PB attempt, but I never used to warm up at all until fairly recently, so it might not be ideal to listen to me

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?
:( .....take it easy, best to get it right As others wrote, take it easy (as you did). For me the same works very well, dropping DF to really low values, often below 100, and focus on form with low rate, not on pace. Hope it sorts out soon! Preaching to the choir here as you've been in this game lo...
