Re: New Personal Best! Brag About That New Pb!

Managed to get over a nice benchmark today. First time sub 1:30 for 500m. Wasn’t even planning on trying but didn’t know what else to do on my lunch break! Felt ok doing a warm up with some quick bursts so gave it a go after a few stretches. 1.8s off my previous best. Actually feel like a could go ...

I gave blood on Friday, so this was a bit harder than usual, with a higher HR, but I wanted a marker for what the impact is rather than just guessing.

Heat and humidity also played a part too, but it wasn't as bad as I expected

Re: Form check

Welcome to the forum, and I echo Mitchel's comments. Try not to have any discernible breaks in the whole motion. It's arguably not essential, but it is good practice.

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

First hard session after back trouble and I chose a tough one from the coaches plan. 4x4'/3'R 🎯 1:47.8 ...went out too hard and paid for it seeing 180+ HR 😲😎 16:00.0 4,512m 1:46.3 28 4:00.0 1,132m 1:46.0 28 4:00.0 1,130m 1:46.1 28 4:00.0 1,129m 1:46.2 28 4:00.0 1,121m 1:47.0 28 No negatives back wi...

Re: Recovery after exercise?

Blindside makes a really good comment. It's all too easy to chase the ego satisfying pace, that you've probably seen other people doing, but if it's draining you, it's counter productive. Don't think in terms of your pace is slow, think of it as something to improve on week by week. Reduce your pace...

Re: Recovery after exercise?

I agree with Iain, as you need to find what works for you rather than trying to use someone else's strategy. Recovery is a strange thing as you can all too quickly blame lack of recovery for a bad session, but in reality bad days can happen no matter what you do, and as Iain has mentioned the best d...

Re: Should I stick to BPP or jump ahead a little?

Again I pushed the pace during the row above what Iplaneed, I didn't think two seconds would make a significant difference. Even 0.5 seconds can make a big difference when you're rowing close to the edge. Two seconds seems relatively insignificant, but you need to make mistakes so you can learn wha...

Re: What Training Have You Done Today?

Physical or mentally not right? I most definitely couldn't do this session at 5k pace.....I reckon it's more 10k-1 or 2 It'll get done I'm sure......keep chipping away. Bit of both tbh mate. It felt like the metres dropped really slowly, and I struggled with breathing. It was humid so that might ex...

https://i.postimg.cc/jwPphrPB/IMG-20210610-071606-907.jpg Something just isn't quite right atm, and this was a struggle from early on. I had an unplanned rest day yesterday too. It was supposed to be the CTC (three miles; two miles; one mile) but my excuses were stronger than my resolve. Admittedly...

Actually tried a row today....10' intervals at base pace. Felt OK(ish) but the back feels tight now so I'll have to be very careful. 30:00.0 7,514m 1:59.7 204 1000 22 10:00.0 2,502m 1:59.9 203 998 22 r: 2:00 97m 10:00.0 2,503m 1:59.8 203 999 22 r: 2:00 40m 10:00.0 2,508m 1:59.6 204 1003 22 I find a...

Re: Heart Rate Zones

I reckon your blood lactate at such a point is quite high already. What makes you think you don’t experience lactic? At 10k pace your lactate levels will be elevated. On anything harder than 5k/6k pace there’s substantial buildup. On something like flat out 1min sprints with long rests (I.e. at lea...

Training piece, all pretty comfortable. L4-style, 276-270-276-270-270-270 Overstroked and sped up a bit as I fatigued, but 24m further than my previous furthest. New headband made a huge difference in how much sweat got in my eyes :) 1:00:00.0 13,358m 2:14.7 143 792 28 10:00.0 2,229m 2:14.5 144 794...

I'm probably not a good example, but I don't warm up for an hour, or longer, row. I arguably use the first 500m-1k as a warm up

Re: Heart Rate Zones

Hard breathing doesn’t stop your muscles from working, doesn’t it? There’s a world of pain waiting for you beyond the max breathing 😉 Hahaha, it's more like a feeling of suffocating than just hard breathing, but it might be fair to say I just need the courage to battle through and suffer from the l...

Re: Covid vaccine, any issues working out after?

For balance I am one of the lucky ones. After first AZ i had elevated HR (10-15BPM for several days) a moderate headache that responded to paracemol and sore arm. After second nothing, HR lower than usual the day after! I've only had one jab, but I felt a bit lethargic for 24 hours about 18 hours a...
