Re: Nasty half marathon attempt
5 weeks ago I bailed out of a 1/2 marathon attempt...my goal was a sub 84 min at a 159 pace.... my pb 85min50secs. I did a number of HMs recently. Steady pace and speed up towards the end seemed to be effective. Any sprinting will take its toll as the others say. Not sure how old your PB is, but 1m...

Re: UT1 and AT
I have been following the Interactive 2000 m program from the UK site and like it due to the variety of workouts. However, I tend to find the suggested paces a little too slow, so I usually decrease the pace (go faster) and also decrease the rate (SPM). Today the workout was 20 min in the UT 1 zone...

I agree that ideally I should have picked up a few tenths on the avg as far out as 1500m but I did not want to risk blowing up again like a couple of weeks back. Just curious, how much experience do you have? Over time I've learned to fairly accurately judge how close to the edge I can go. I think ...

So, your average pace was 1:57.4 with 200m remaining. You finished at 1:56.8. That means you gained 6 secs overall in the final 200m. To do that over 250m, you have to average 12 secs lower in pace. So your sprint was 1:45 or better over the last 200m. Impressive. But it is not the best strategy. I...

Re: Well done Andy
Andy, Great row. That puts the pressure on me to finally take the plunge. Of the many suggestions, what did you do over the first 100m. I note that you not only kept a consistantly high rating, but managed to negatively split at constant rating. I find that negative splitting (or even even pacing) ...

Great row, Andy, congratulations. I was confident you could do it, 5k's are always hard, and so I am impressed you were willing to take a second crack at it. The splits and race plan looks perfect to me. How fast were you sprinting down the stretch? Thanks Michael, that result has even put me in th...

2nd attempt at my target last night. Really hard session but without the cramps from the failed attempt a week or so back. Result 19:28.2 (1:56.8) :D 1.8 seconds faster than target and 9 seconds off my previous PB. After taking on board the various suggestions and feedback people gave I set out a se...

Andy, I just check the rowpro result list and I noticed that you did a HM @ 2:07 within a day of your all-out 4500 meters. Impressive! I tried to do an hour at 2:09 yesterday and failed miserably (lack of motivation). Time to start a new season with new targets and new SB's :D So you pace me to 19:...

Michael, John, Thanks for the feedback. Because the 'test' 3.5k went ok setting off at 1:57 from the outset I assumed it would work to row a flat pace for the 5k. I since had the same thoughts that you point out... that if I was able to hold 1:57 from the start I would actually finish ahead of 19:30...

 Saturdays PB attempt didn't go so well for me. It was tough from the outset, which I expected, but as we approached 4k the pain that had been building up in my sides became unbearable and I had to back right off for a few strokes. I picked it back up to 1:57 but could not hold it. I paddled fo...

I joined Gerhard & Tom for the test yesterday. RowPro was challenging as it was so busy. After a couple of false starts and a lot of hanging around we finally set off as a field of 3, culled from 7 thanks to starting issues. Gerhard & I rowed within a couple of metres of each other at steady 1:57 ex...

Rowpro rows: Wednesday 23-04, 19:00 GMT 5K test row (first 3500m at target pace, easy finish) Saturday 26-04, 10:00 GMT Full 5K at target pace I signed up for both of these. Do you want to do 5k warmup at 18:30ish as a QR? I hope so, but my wife will be out so I have to get the children to bed and ...

Andy, The 60 minute pace in your signature (2:06.3) does not match your 60 minute distance... Since I needed to update my profile for the mistake you noticed I thought I'd row another 60mins. Managed a new PB with 60 metres more, Total 14404. :) The last 10 minutes was pretty horrible, but I though...
