8 weeks.

I've backed off a bit to 50% of RHR for about 20 minute workouts. I did this yesterday for a row in the morning, and the treadmill in the afternoon. For me, that is about a 122-125 bpm. Rowing, only Gear 3 on my A model, and about 2:52 - 3:05 /500m pace. Walking, 3.2 mph at 5.5% ...
If you fall off at 6K, spend some time on that ring doing some 2x or 3x of 5Ks for 4-6 weeks or more. You'll build up to longer distances. Give yourself more time to acclimatize.

My readings in exercise physiology state that recovery is more rapid and thorough at 60% effort, because you get more oxygen into your system than at full rest, but usually more than 20 seconds. 20 seconds of inactivity may be mentally good, and somewhat helpful physically, but a moderate pace on th...

My exercise physiology texts tell me three hours before an event for a light meal. 30 minutes before an event for up to a pint of water if you might be thirsty. Stomach clearing takes about 4 hours in the average person. Know thyself.

If your digestive tract is slower than average, have a...

The competitions, or certain groups, could use a different drag factor based on weight. That would simulate the effect of otw rowing, and be an equalizer to for in-shape LWs vs the heavier people in poorer condition.

If DF won't be used, they should group people in 5 or 10 pound categor...

6 1/2 weeks since surgery.

Been walking, erging a little, some very light weights, bench step-ups exercises in lieu of walking stairs.

Monday the 27th, I managed a 6K. I've been doing some easy 10 minute pieces every few days, and thought I'd press the time longer. Only a bi...

I think the sprints will benefit your rowing a lot.

I only timed 800m once in college, and I was not in that great of shape, I thought. A 2:25 in January after 3 weeks off due to a sprained ankle.

We ran a lot of stairs (including 2 and 3 steps per stride), with sprints on the ...

Interesting.

I would think the shadow might provide bad OTW habits. This fellow, and land rowers in general, have no concern of catch and blade depth. Watching the video, it gives a different, possibly easier reference point for the hands at the catch position on the erg. I would not use ...

I'm sorry. You caught me with an exaggeration showing.

"About 200" is imprecise, a bit exaggerated. My point being that an HR above 130 is very easy to accomplish, at least for me. I think getting blisters means your hands are sliding a bit too much on the oar handle. That indicates your grip is off a bit, and as you pull, the oar squares itself, and your grip slips casuing friction and blisters. If your grip did not slip, you'd possibly develop tendonitis in one or both wrist...
