College Rowing

I am currently a Junior at my high school, and now is the time for me to start looking at colleges. I plan to row in college, but there are many schools that I have in mind-- Bucknell, BC, BU, MIT, RIT, and a few others. If anyone has any information on their crew teams or the school itself, that wo...

Since you are already doing weight training, the rowing benefit for you will be mostly cardio/calorie burn. I agree. If you are weight training 3x a week, it wouldnt be a good idea to "muscle-build" erg also. Days that you weight train, I would do just a light cardio workout on the erg, nothing maj...

Sweaty-Skulling Hands

Hi there! I recently started sculling this summer in a competitive program. We row everyday in the morning for 2 hours, and sometimes in the afternoons. My coach tells me I need to work on my technique but I find this difficult because my hands--they sweat a lot, which makes it very hard to grip the...

"too much" layback?

I recently attended a technique-based erg class the other day. I got a lot out of it and the coach really seemed to know what he was talking about. He said I had good form, but made little ajustments to lenth. I feel like he cut my stroke length size greatly. As for the catch, he told me that i go t...

it wasnt as bad as i thought it was going to be. On the way down to the starting point, the current was with us, so we got there in no time. For the actual racing, we had the current and winds against us, but we stuck it out. We placed second, so I guess you could say it was successful :)

I row on the school team for St. John the Baptist High School on Long Island. This past spring was my first season, and the regatta's were usually 500-1500m, which was a killer for me, but i stuck it out. Now im just starting the fall season, which usually has 6k races only. This upcoming weekend i ...
