That is a really good analogy.

In short, the computer on the erg compensates for whatever damper setting (drag factor) you row at.

Just like the gears on those bikes, you get less credit for a spin of the fan (spin of the pedals) at a lower damper setting than a higher damper s...

I had been doing the same thing with the rail and rollers.

Guess what.... when you take the seat off you will find 6 rollers, not just 4.

I got these tips from Mark at C2.

Some of this is probably in the book, but Here they are.

Our rollers have been squeaking badly lately, even though we clean them and the rail as well as possible every time.

I followed his following suggestion..

Remove the...

Well I sure learned something that was counterintuitive to me.

I talked to C2 today, and they told me that as the erg gets dirty, the drag factor will decrease. This is because as the outlet holes become blocked with dust, there is less air flow in the chamber, and the drag is casued by a...

Thanks gang.

Rick, I am surprised by your experience because I would expect drag factor to increase with humidity.

If anybody knows of any reason why it would go the other way pleease let me know.

Not sure to what times you refer. Erg times at altitude are substantially slower. C2 uses an adjustment factor of about 3% to compensate for the detrimental effect of altitude on erg performance.

We get no benefit from the lower air resistance (other than an easier slide up and down the r...

I should have been clearer that the biggest difference is the altitude. Much less air resistance up here.

Yes this helps a bunch.

I'd appreciate some confirmation of the numbers.

Thanks!

Hi gang and happy hollidays.

I am trying to get a good comparison of drag factor vs. damper setting here in Boulder vs. at sea level.

I would appreciate it if some of you sea level ergers would let me know what your drag factors are with the damper set at 3, 6, and as high as i...

We have that foam pad.

I have a real bony backside and need something a little more substantial.

I usually use some folded towels which work fine, but they are a pain in the butt in the boat.

I recently purchased the Salamander gel rowing seat from Adirondack Rowing.

I have found it to be basically worthless. The gel gets displaced so quickly that after less than 10 minutes there is virtually nothing left under the part of your butt that matters except for the cover on the pad...

My wife lost 100 pounds in a year a couple of years ago. That was her goal.
She was "only" 100 pounds overweight and I do not think that she could have jumped right into rowing (although she had never before exercised in her life, and you have).

She has her story up on here somewhere...

Abby, try to not grip the handle too tightly. Try to think of your hands as hooks just hanging on to the handle. Hold on just tightly enough to feel that you have control.

One thing we all do is tense up when we are exerting ourselves. Try to relax those hands as best you can.
