Re: Slides versus Static Erging
First of all Steve and Jim, thanks for your kind words. Although my erg raw erg scores may be slightly ahead of yours, the adjustment by age (Jim) and weight (Steve), puts me well behind each of you. Just check the nonathlon standings. For those of you unfamiliar, it is a database that does a good j...

Re: Slides versus Static Erging
I have an opinion that is non-scientific, but I have 40+ years OTW sweep/sculling, and have been comfortable with "gamut" ergs of the 70s, the stationary C2, and over the past 5 years, I have been a dedicated "slider" with the model D. Upon putting the erg on slides, I immediately experienced a sign...

Re: Crash-B Observations/Impressions from afar
Jim, alas I do not know Osterling or Hendershott. I actually missed out on the WIRC from 1990 to 2010 except I showed up in 1998-2000.

Re: Crash-B Observations/Impressions from afar
Not so distant impressions of 2015 CRASH B Sprints: I have competed in many CRASH Bs, starting in 1984. I tend to do 3-4 in a row, then take about 5 years off. Although this event has grown considerably, the organizers have upped their game each year, so this huge event with world wide roots still i...

Re: Crash-B Observations/Impressions from afar
There seems to be a problem with the posting of the senior master results on the CRASH B website. The C2 website has the results. I competed in the HW 60-64 race, and I am considering a try at posting some observations later today. I saw Yankee Runner in the stands (and in his race), so he will prob...

G-Dub: First, you are correct that everyone has their personal relationship with pain and suffering. So my suggestion may not work for you. Everyone needs to figure out what works for them. If I am feeling good, and I am convinced there is a possibility of a PB or SB, I will wait until I pass the 1,...

Re: First experiences with Slides
Hi Greg, I switched to slides about 4 years ago. I mostly agree with your thoughts. It is more like otw rowing. My lower back appreciates the smoother stroke - there is no shock (or hitch) at the catch. There is less airflow. I row in a basement in the frozen north, so sweating has not been an issue...

Re: Advice on my technique and training, again
Hanzo, I think your arms are ok. I am concerned about your back, which opens up very early in the stroke. You would be more powerful if you better utilize the legs early, and delay the opening of the back until the legs are half way down. You may also be putting excess pressure on the lower back. Th...
