Here's a contrary opinion about eating after dinner. If I go to bed hungry or near hungry, I don't sleep well and I tend to eat bad carbs in the morning when I wake because I feel like I'm starving. But eating a good snack before bed doesn't have to be a lot of calories. Here are a few suggestions:<...

Weight Loss/ Weight Control

I need to warm up quite a bit before doing a hard workout. Oftentimes, I'll do a 10 minute warmup - starting slow but throwing in some hard 10 stroke pulls in the last 5 minutes before doing a 30 minute piece. If I try to maintain the same pace for a thirty minute piece without adequate warmup, it w...

I bet as you get more familiar with the technique you will row at least a little faster. It's easy to get bored if your effort is too low. I'm only 5' 1" and 50 years old and row 10K in about 51 minutes without breathing overly hard. (I can answer questions at that pace, but not carry on a whole con...

Concerning weight loss and rowing: I rowed for years (at least 10) - 7-10K 5 days a week and though I was relatively fit - strong, with low resting pulse and low blood pressure, my weight stayed 20 - 30 pounds higher than it should have been until I changed my eating habits. I think I unconsciously ...

Sorry I don't have a reference for this chart. It's been tacked to my wall for years:

MHR (Max Heart Rate) - HR (Heart Rate after 1 minute of rest) = X

If X = 60 or more - SUPER
= 40-59 - Excellent
= 30-39 - Good
= 20-29 - Fair
< 20 - Poor

I d...

The Challenges and competitions are all about winning - every one of us winning. So what is winning? Winning is finding the motivation to care as much about myself as all the other loved ones in my life. Winning is remembering to eat well and thoughtfully. Winning is doing something physical that ge...

Great to see all you women hunkering down for the Holiday Challenge. I've got 60,060m so far and haven't rowed today yet. I can vouch for the sweatshirt - great color and terrific design. It's kind of a boxy style, not form fitting in the least. Oh, and it's a hoody too!
